I was afraid of this...

E3, now know to be called "Sorcerer King", is in its most basic sense simply a re-skinning of FE:LH.

I have dire worries that LH will not reach 2.0 status as efforts are poured into the next generation instead....just as what happened with FE.

Never the less, initial comments:

  • Those trees keep swaying back and forth....making me sick. Hope there is an option to turn that off.
  • REALLY sad to see multi-tile cities disappear. That'll be one of the main reasons as to why I stick with FE:LH instead.
  • Don't much care for the 'bubbly, pastel' look and feel. Gives the impression that this is a kids game instead of a 4x strategy meant for adults.
  • Like the idea of crafting, though not sure about the quality of recipes available. Crafting is only as good as its recipes.
  • Like the idea of Logistics. Kinda reminds me of an idea I gave for multi-tile cities, having each city with a 'cap' for number of buildings that can be upgraded through the townhall or additional special buildings.

That said, it's in beta....so much can still change. Never the less, I think I'll still be pouring my efforts into seeing an LH 2.0 materialize. More DLC is always better. :)

Calling it a "reskinning" of LH is pretty offensive. It's a quick way to get us to ignore your feedback.

It has the potential to be my favorite Elemental game. Sorry, Firefly, but until you've played it, your feedback is just not accurate.

Especially the re-skinning part.

The following is said without having played the game (don't own it) and only having watched about three videos: I like the visuals of Sorcerer King. And I'm far from being a kid. I like them so much that I feel compelled to buy it... which I must not. Yet? Not for visuals only at least? But I like the feeling of "Pretty" and "Fun". Would "Campy" be a proper term for this? Anyways, I'd not mind this style (in graphics) for Worlds of Magic (UI style is solid there though).

Sorcerer King has a Master of Magic feeling (slightly?) superior to other Elemental titles and I like that. I feel curious about how that DM feature can spice the game and how the Sorcerer King actually plays his game. Because the player's game is standard 4X (not that I'm complaining).

And this game would work on my ancient computer without chocking.

Let's hope for many Let's Play in Youtube because I certainly want to keep an eye on it.

Apologies. I tried to emphasize that it was only in the most basic of sense in that it is still a 4x game set in the world of elemental, with similar units, items, resources, etc.

In no way did I mean that you were just slapping on a new label and restocking. I know SD is placing a great deal of time and effort into this product.

You are correct in that I have not played SK. I thought I mentioned that my opinion was based solely on the let's play videos released to date.

Quoting Frogboy,

I appreciate this.  Reskinning would have been millions of dollars cheaper. ;)

So basically Stardock is developing GC3, Sorcerer King and LH at the same time? Seems like a lot of work.

Btw, I like the interface changes in Sorcerer King. I always felt that left side unit/cities panel didn't really work for 4x fantasy game unless playing on very small maps (gets overpopulated very fast and you are left with constant mouse-scrolling which had its problems there). It works fine in games like Sins of Solar Empires where you need speed access to units since it plays in real time. On turn based games where you can have dozen's of cities and even more units/armies it just isn't so functional.

Crafting system is interesting too. Really like the idea.
