For the old school dudes - Minor races from WOM ?

Hi all,

Question for any of the guys who been here long enough...

From reading some really old threads (from WOM), I am led to believe there was some sort of minor race / minor faction concept... presumably a bit like that in GalCiv2.  I'm just curious how it worked, what was good/bad about it... and why it was dropped ?

Cheers.

Well they did used to exist but I don't remember them doing anything ever. They were basically just one city factions that were quickly conquered or ignored.  They removed them because they were pointless.

The best thing about the minor faction(s?) was that you could purchase unique gear from it/them.  I don't remember there being more than one mior faction.

Well I think you could make minor factions and then make gear only sellable in their shops just like the FE cities.  You wold have to just make a custom faction and then delete their settler unit or give it a unique unobtainable prereq item to build so they can't expand.  Set the Sov so that it has 0 strategic movement and normal tactical movement.  Then next game you start just make sure to include that faction.

Edit* Make that the FE Campaign NPC cities.

I remember them, and indeed I would often visit the shop of a minor race if I was out and about in the frontier looking to upgrade weapons and armor or restock supplies.

They were, of course, a holdover from GalCiv.  In GalCiv, I often trade tech to/from minors to help bolster my treasury.  But in both cases, they are a minor distraction at best.  I'm sure that a more robust implementation of minors would be really cool.  Say, recruit a champion from a minor race, a quest that involves getting some item to the minor Sov in exchange for some knowledge, joining together in a brief alliance to fight against some monster menace, and a number of other ideas.

But as it stood, as noted above, they seemed more like an afterthought than a useful feature.  With the plethora of other issues that needed ironing out between E:WOM and now, it was best to just take them out of the equation until a later date.  If they were re-added at some point via DLC or whatever, I agree that they need to be much more than just some neutral city that is there just because...

Were they the same races as the ones we have now?  So maybe like a single Trog city or something?
