I've seen similar things many times, problem may be that the game does not think of surfaces like we do, so things in the game may "collide" without actual damage seen, I often see capital ship VS titan things, so the capital ship has a part inside the titans hull, or other smaller ships going through a bigger object like a ghost.

Maybe the ad where the guy crashes thru his garage and says on phone to insurance co, "I just combined my home and auto."
