Freeing prisoner doesn't give "Confusion" Spell?

I have frequently gotten the message that I have learned the confusion spell, but I have never seen any such spell in my spell book.  Which, I imagine, means I am confused.

Hah! Well, good to know it's not just my game. I looked in the quest XML, and there appears to be another "Free Prisoner in Tower" quest the results in fighting a demon. I've never encountered that one, either. Has anyone, by chance? (I did play a game with the wanderlust trait, and must have completed upwards of 200 quest maps in it).

Sometime if you free him, he teach you but it's not show up for some reason, and sometime you would not get anyway as he turn into demon...it's just  a random, not always one path...

Actually it is always one path, the thing is, there's actually 2 different quests. One where he turns into a demon, and one where he doesn't. The quests just looks the same until he does... so you think it's random (but it isn't). It's the same with the clearing rat quest, one where you have to fight a spider, one where you don't.

As for confusion, I remember getting it once... it's a battle spell that causes the enemy to become clumsy (50% of not attacking the targeted unit). Not the greatest thing in the world.

He says that he'll teach you Confusion, so you look for the spell and can't find it, and are therefore... Confused!  Perhaps the spell is cast on YOU.  

It's not an ability that only shows up in tactical screen? Make sure you checked the Tactical Spells  tab in the spell book.

I had checked the tactical spells section of the spellbook (no dice), but didn't think to check my sov's tab in combat-it was pretty full by that point. With 1.1 now out, my old saves have been junked. Still, I'll try to remember to check in combat should I get that quest and a null result again.

I believe I was checking my tactical spellbook, but I shall check again the next time I get it.

Okay so I noticed in CoreSpells.xml that the Confusion spell has this tag:

        <IsSpecialAbility>1</IsSpecialAbility>

Is it possible this is stopping it from showing up in the spellbook?

It should show up under Skills with that tag.

Hmm, okay.  I guess I'll have to get into a tactical battle to see if it appears.

Yep.  Made a map with the quest dungeon, set it to not be a special ability, then it shows up.  Hurrah.
