Nub in Love (and possibly in need of help? =)
Gentlemen,
So I forget how I initially ran into this game... A little over a week ago. Since that time I have logged (just checked) 76 hours according to Steam - what an amazing game. I haven't been this excited about a RTS since Warcraft (the original) or AOE.
I always played Civ, I've owned every version. I was happy with that because I felt RTS games were rather lacking compared to the 90s stuff.
Anyway! It would be cool if you guys could post me some links on some strategy or something. I can beat vicious computers with VL... But that is just ridiculously easy-mode. I have trouble on hard with everyone else. Just lost a game with ARs about 20 minutes ago. I've played everyone except AL and VR, out of the ones I've played I am pretty certain AR are my favorite, love that Eradica tian - plus the voicing is kinda cool ![]()
My goal is to be able to beat vicious AI with at least 2 other factions than the VLs and start gracing the multiplayer - As hard is giving me a run for my money I have a little ways to go ![]()
So far from Googling I have read that:
Capital ships shouldn't be used for their guns as the supply they take up results in less damage for your fleet than if you were to use smaller ships - use capital ships for their abilities and try not to max-out your supply with tons of them.
The Vassari are being chased by My Little Pony.
Ankylon Titan is lame (and as Titans seem to make a huge impact mid-game and almost decide end-game having the weakest titan seems like kind of a bummer)... Even if you are fighting in your own gravity well the best option is to just ignore the stupid thing until you blow up the fleet, then the planet, then the Titan - this works on hard AI. Also, since it doesn't do any damage it is hella-hard to lvl up.
Positioning your ships is important... I.E. a Ragnarov w/fleet isn't going to be hard to take down with a similar level Eradica w/fleet as long as you keep your capital ships and fleet away from the front of the damn thing (let the Eradica take the punishment and if possible get some shield regen going on). It is good to make sure you position your ships so that all their guns can train on the enemy, not just one side (if possible).
Don't ignore the support ships... If you are attacking a Ragnarov take out the Durovs it may have around it first - this applies to the repair stations near starbases and the like as well.
---
So... All that said. About the Advent. Since their economy is kinda weak it is best to not lose ships (I mean, this of course applies to everyone, but particularly the Advent). Would this be a situation where you want to try to go for the heavier ships, possibly capital ships in stead of smaller vessels that do (as a total) more damage than 1 capital ship? It is easier to keep a capital ship alive than keeping 30 corvettes alive.
I also seem to have a late early-game bog-down in my economy for a while (I can tell this by looking at the AIs economies compared to my own). It takes me until middle-mid-game to catch back up to the AI. This results in the AI having fleets and me hiding behind starbases w/upgrades at choke points so I don't get womped on. It seems like if I build a fleet of small ships instead of the starbases I end up perpetually replenishing my fleet ranks and can never get my already bogged-down economy back up to speed - at this point I start losing planets and it is over pretty quick. Of course with VL I end up with 200,000 extra credits, 60,000 metal and crystal by late-mid game lol, but that is just such a cheesy way to play this game I think. As a side note I think VL would be pretty balanced if they only got about half what they do from stripping planets.
Any and all help/tips would be appreciated. I plan on terrorizing multiplayer sooner rather than later ![]()
Yours truly,
