What happened to the resources at the starting areas?

After starting a new game after the patch it seems that either i am super unlucky or the random generator hates me. After trying to find a decent map and literally getting 421 or just 33 or 42 or in some cases just empty areas devoid of anything i figured i would come on and ask if this is the way it is going to be or is this just something wrong in the patch? Also in all the times i did it sometimes their would be no crystals or no anything in the low patches.

Now i may not like it but i can learn to live with the low starting ares as i have only been playing a few days so i can just go with the flow of it but what about new people to the game what happens if they get a map with literally nothing on it or a real low number sequence and start building--i can see quite a few people going wow this is just tedious and never play again. remember the new people buying the game might not read the forums and know about Crtl N  and not know that you need certain elements to build and get disgusted with the slow pace of building with no resources and quit.

Just my 2 cents.

p.s. after getting a few no good maps i decided to try something and went to novice and went for magic and resource heavy on a temperate world and also the mountainous world and the same thing no joy at all for me in the maps and i tried at least 25 Ctrl N's

4/2/1?  Not to provoke argument, but I'm not sure why you find anything wrong with that.  I've used that or something like it many times, with success.

No argument from me but you might get some arguments from new players when they try to build and building is sooooo slow because they do not have the right resources for the towns they are building or what about the maps with nothing on them just dropped off in the middle of nowhere--you are probably a pro at this and know how to deal with it but do you think someone just buying the game at release is going to hang around when building is slow as molasses and they are getting crushed by mobs and can not build up armies to take them on? Not everyone reads the froums and will know what to do and i think this new patch is asking for trouble --people want fun not tedium--that's just my 2 cents

Just my perspective, but first towns aren't that slow to build, and most starting spots are pretty decent.  (I consider 4/2/1 good.  With Pariden or any customized race that has the scrying pool, it's truly fine.)  I would expect a new player to start at a much lower difficulty level, where everything is easier.  And the focus isn't on watching a first town grow, but on sending out pioneers to find new, good building spots, while your sovereign and first champion look for challenges, gain traits, open goodie huts, do research, learn spells, run quests, etc.  There's more than enough going on to keep things interesting, for what my opinion's worth.

Ok i see your point but as a fanatical builder it does irk me to know that the game is being cheap in the starting spots but what about the maps that i encountered today other than the 421--the ones with literally nothing on it--zero zip nada--now if i was new to the game it would irk me that the game plopped me into nowhere and i cant build anything and had to go back to the main menu to restart a map.

My suggestion to the devs is i can see why you toned down the resource at start but remember this game is for fun and if people want to have a hard go of it let them up the difficulty and also to put the Ctrl N in as a tip at screen loading.
