Xbox can I use a sata laptop hard disk in my Xbox 360 slim?

I have a sata 250 gig laptop hard disk laying around in my workroom, and I have a spare xbox hard disk casing (in case my current one breaks). I'm wondering if anybody ever tried to use a hard disk other than the xbox recommended one and plug it in their xbox slim.?

I believe so, if you can find the proper adapter and formatting tips.  I know there are plenty of knockoff 360 hard drives around on buy.com last time I looked for example, can't guarantee any of them work very well and they certainly aren't under warranty, but they exist.

Of course, I never had a Slim so my information might be outdated, but I doubt it's changed much.
