Endless wave after wave after wave of pirate attacks...

is this a bug???

OK... this was weird......

I updated to 1.04 earlier, and made a custom map in galaxy forge to try out the different races.  6 star systems, each with a dozen planets set up so each race can get a foothold before the fun starts.

I also added a bunch more ships to the planet militias to make things more interesting....

So this time I thought I'd try out TEC rebels.... each of the other players set to cruel... the game started OK.. the rebel titan is pretty cool... and I had just aquired my 4th planet when a pirate raid headed my way.....  which was a little weird, because the pirate warning said the last raid was going to another player...  and they seem smarter... not just attacking my defended front planet... they keep trying to get past it to the less defended worlds.... which is pretty impressive of the AI....

So my new titan and it's fleet took them down with no problem... but almost right after I got another warning... and after that another one.....  and now I'm getting hit with a pirate literally every five minutes, dispite what the pirate warning window says.  I haven't had anything like this happen before.

Question: Is this something new, or perhaps a bug with 1.04...  Or could one of the AI players be paying off the pirates massive amounts of $$$ to keep attacking me???

My guess is the AI is buying Pirates missions against you?

Set to cruel, they have a lot of spare resources.

You're TEC Rebel, you can just research "Truce amongst rogues"

yeah, I was working on researching that when I shut down for the night.... but there's like 3 techs you need first to get there.

I'm just really blown away... if it's the AI, it's the first time one has really gone this far against me.  I'm both annoyed and impressed at the same time.  I keep bitching the AI's aren't smart enough... but this one so far has proven to have a couple tricks up it's sleeve....  it must have Klingon blood!!!  hehehe

The only thing I'm wondering...   "Truce amongst rogues" states it forms a peace treaty with the pirates and remaining neutral worlds.... but I went and made the militias the planet owners in this map....  so will this interfere with me taking down the rest of the neutral worlds I want to own???  hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...... I may be stuck betwen a rock and a hard place... of my own making....

If you research Truce amongst rogues you'll be allied with both the pirates and the militias, so you won't be able to attack their planets

The AI is strange, sometimes it's really dumb, but sometimes it can give you a hard time

Yes. I have militia owning planets built into my mod in every map, even random ones, and I had to remove Truce Amongst Rogues as it was implemented to avoid that. However, if you're fighting for your life against swarms of pirates, it maybe a good idea, as a nonTEC Rebel player will probably take them eventually.

Actually "Truce amongst rogues" was still a good thing... but only after a certain point in the game.  In this particular map I had 6 different star systems, one for each race.... the idea was to give them each a system to get established, then have a free for all and see who comes out on top.  I was the TEC rebel, so I didn't have to worry aobut the other races using it... and I just held off of Truce until I had my own system conquered...  I wasn't concerned with the other systems, so having a truce with those militias is fine, and allows me to bypass them and go right to my enemy's planets.

If I play as a different race, then I may also have to address it so the AI doesn't screw itself.

And yea, at your stage in the game, you need TAR if you want to be able to defend and launch offensives against so many cruel guys without having to worry about pirates.

Technically it wasnt a speech

Technically im not defending him

Technically what he was trying to say is even though people think AI's are dumb and hate them also means they like them when they do their part.

Technically i sincerly think and im positive it wasn't hate shit because if you enjoy homosexuals then there not homosexuals and just normal people.

Now: Do you see why you were misunderstanding the whole scenario?

Is it the picture. can i remove it? I sincerely think we are both right but in his opinion he was refering to the fact homosexuality shouldn't be even talked about because otherwise its showing hate towards them. I absolutely have nothing against anyone to be honest and prefer to go about doing what i do best: Having fun.

Technically..... I don't understand why anyone is bringing it up in the first place!!!  This is a post about a game... why did it even have to be mentioned in the first place!!!!

And more than that.... you said, and I quote:  "If I enjoy homosexuals...."  "Enjoy"???  What are you trying so hard to imply????  For someone who claims this isn't hate speech... you have a weird way of showing it.

The sad thing Jim is now I have the image of a stadium American football game playing that sports anthem and a bunch of pirates in the stands doing the wave to the song.

The best bet is to go TEC and truce dem rogues--or get the Maw and go to their base and vacuum them up.

OK, anyway... back to the game... I know who was sending the pirates... or at least I'm pretty sure.  I didn't think about it at the time, but the pirates kept trying to attack one of my less undefended worlds near the back of my system.... but no enemy scout ship had come near that planet yet....

Now I'm not positive how every race works when hiring pirates... but assuming the AI player purchasing the raid can pick their target, this means it could only be one of the two Advent races using a Revelation cap ship with Clairvoyance... No-one else could have known that planet existed, but a Revelation could have found it without ever leaving home.

And when I looked, the Advent Loyalists really, really hated me...  something like -12.5. way beyond any of the other races, especially the Advent Rebels, they were just starting to reach out to me in fact...  so if I was to venture a guess, my $$$ is on the Advent Loyalists who are buying the pirates to screw with me.....

This being the case, I also know who I will be coming back after first... bwwahahahaha!!!

Not sure if Sins does this, but sometimes the AI just plain cheats and automatically knows where you are, especially in RTS style games.  I know for a fact this happens in starcraft 2.  It's not unreasonable, especially on cruel settings since they cheat for resources anyway, to think the computer is cheating and simply knowing which planets to hit.  It may also be a new thing the devs programmed in for the harder difficulties.

"Attack planet# 2 instead of the closest, because most people are fortifying the outside and leaving the inside of their empire nice and squishy."

hmmmmm... interesting thought.... they have said Cruel and especially Vicious cheats..... I wonder just how much?

In defence of the AI... the game I was playing last night was surprisingly absent of mysterious pirate attacks... until I got back from conquering a neighbor planet and saw a weird glowing eyeball over my capital planet... than over another one!  I didn't know what to think at first, and then it hit me... Claivoyance!  Damned Advent were spying on my planets!  And sure enough, only a few minutes later the random pirate attacks began.  So the AI behaved exactly how it should have... it found a way to scout me out before it began attacking.

Which also gives me an even greater respect and fear of Clairvoyance!!!!

I've always liked clairvoyance.  But it kinda bugged me that it was a cap-ship ability.  I would rather see it on their propaganda towers(Or whatever they call the building that spreads their culture).  Cap ship abilities are supposed to be ways to turn the game around quick.  I do see the usefullness of scouting, but not at the expense of a good cap ship ability.
