Setting militia to be planet owners???

it worked with Diplomacy, but not Rebellion?

OK, I have a question.....  not sure if it belongs here, or in Modding, or both..... but it mostly pertains to modding Rebellion, so I'll put it here.

One of the things I've done on all the past games before Rebellion was to change my GalaxyScenarioDef files so that the local militia owned their planets. Before Rebellion it was easy, just find the appropriate militia template, and switch ColonizeChance from 0 to 1....  and Viola'... instant militia planet. Then use galaxy forge to add two or three more "MilitiaStrongs", just for good measure....  now it takes a little more time and effort to take down a random planet, including bombing it into submission.... yeah, much more fun this way.....

But then Rebellion came out, and even though the GalaxyScenarioDef looks the same, when I switched the ColonizeChance, nothing happened... everything stayed the same.  And I can't figure out for the life of me why.... it should work, it has on every other past version.... I'm gonna try again after this, but so far I'm stumped.....

Anyone got any ideas what may have changed between Diplomacy and Rebellion that could cause this?

the dirtiest trick to get a colonized militia would be to ADD a colony frigate to the spawned ships for the militiia's.

as to the cause obviously starclad decided that it would 'help' the game to remove the 'unused' function, BUT in my opinion they were wrong.

I've quit Rebellion; it's worse imho than Diplomacy.  Game has nice graphics -rest is screwed.

Did you try adding them in the galaxy file?

There is a second set of colonization settings in the maps themselves, where you can set a chance for each ring of planets.  They will use the first set of militia in a template when you do that.

Jim, I have had no problems whatsoever with my mod having militia owned planets. You are using "RandomMilitia" instead of a specific militia right?

Why isn't this part of the base game?

Would love if neutrals had turrets and fighters...and owned the planets...and capitals {ships} for that matter..

{and not generic TEC either}

This should kick in depending on difficulty level.....

You can if you use the in game map designer. Or there are mods that will get it to work anywhere. They'd need an option like pirates because for multiplayer anything that could lead to more randomness is a very bad thing, and the devs probably don't think its worth the effort.

No, at this point all I changed was the ownership line from 0 to 1....  where specifically do you mean?

Do you mean  colonizeChance 0 to colonizeChance 1  ???  set to 0.5 for 50% chance etc.

Some owner examples

owner "PlanetOwner"
owner "RandomMilitia"
owner "NoOwner"
owner "NewPlayer0"

Are you doing this in the map or the GSD?

Did you want this for Custom maps or Random maps?

Switching a militia template from colonizeChance only sets that type of planet chance, so week is kept at 0 and not colonizing crappy planets. strong is for terrans so I could set that to 1 but you still need to set the maps planet owner for specific terrans.

Oh, Ok.  I meant colonizeChance , yeah.  I really only need it for custom galaxy forge maps.  And I'm doing it in GSD.  So I also have to set the owner from "PlanetOwner" to "Random Militia"???

First of all, if you only want it on custom maps you make, editting the GSD is the totally wrong approach. You should disable the default templates for the planets you want militia on, add the ships you want the militia to have, then once you're done with the map, save it, then open it in notepad. Find the planets you added ships too (this section should look like the GSD), set the owner to "RandomMilitia", use "Always", and set the colonize chance to 1.

I'll be damned.... I had no idea I could do it this way.  Thank you!!!!!
