Random Large Map Starting Teams Positions Question

Hello...

So, my last game of Sins of a Solar Empire was with the following settings:

Single Player - Random Map (Multi - 8 players, 3 stars and 82 planets)

Team 1: Me (Loyal TEC)

Team 2: 3 Hard Advents

Team 3: 3 Hard Vasaris

Team 4: 1 Unfair Rebel TEC

LOCKED TEAMS

Problem is, I spawned in a Star System together with all the 3 Advents. I have some skills already playing the game but not that much to face it... Soon I was militarily and culturally being overpowered... (the military I could hold for a little but the cultural "attack" destroyed me because all my resources were being focused on defenses and I couldn't research proper cultural techs)

Is this the way the game is supposed to behave? Or could I have been spawned with 2 Advents and 1 Vasari or 1 Advent, 1 Vasari, the Rebel TEC... etc.

If this is totally Random, what if I get a huge map 1x4x4x1, would that reduce the chances of this happening or would be the same?

Thanks in advance! =)

For any map that "comes with the game", starts are AFAIK completely random...you have no control over where people will spawn, whether they'll spawn in the same system or next to allies, etc...it is entirely random...

Custom made maps in galaxy forge can make it so that the 1st player always has the same start, the 2nd player has their own start, etc...but that only occurs if the map was designed as such, and you'd have to know before hand what player slots correspond to what starting positions...

Thanks for the reply, Seleuceia! =)

I found a way to minimize this "problem" - although some may not see this as a problem, "each new game a new experience", etc. and I sympathize and even share this opinion up to some level.

As simple as it seems, the way is playing games on single star systems random maps rather than multi star systems. With large and huge maps, even if a team spawn close to each other, they will have more enemies to worry very close to them, and not in a distant star.

And also they seem to be a little more fun to play... I used to think otherwise but never gave them a shot until now... But that's a personal opinion of course! ;)

Regards.

Some of the premades have fixed postions. Quite a few do.

But in the 'random' maps the postions are of course gonna be random.
