Idea for Rebellion Endgame

Even In Victory, No One Is Safe

There's one thing I really would have thought would be awesome for this game (Since it is kind of a prelude to Sins 2).  I would have loved it if Ironclad had put the dreaded 4th race in this game.  Not as a playable race, but instead as a final NPC.  You play your game to victory condition.  Most probably via military or allied conditions.  Once you win the game, you get the usual quit or keep playing option.  Should you choose to keep playing, then the dreaded 4th race makes it's appearance.  If you are the Vasari Loyalists, then they run and make their escape (as was their goal from the start) and it's game over.  But if you are any of the other races, then you (and your allies, if any) get the fight of a lifetime.  It's winnable, but it's one hell of a fight.  Setting the stage for the next game.  The next game would obviously have new tech specifically geared at fighting this unknown race.  But at least in this game you would get a glimpse at the 4th race and in a very fun and unique way.  Also you wouldn't get to see what this race looks like in rebellion via the diplomacy screen as diplomacy is not an option.  But you would at least get to see their ships and fight to the death.  I've always wanted to see a game do this where even though you've won the game, you also haven't because something else gets thrown in to the mix at the very end.  Sins Rebellion would be the perfect game for this kind of gameplay mechanic, especially given it's lore.  I know it won't happen, but I still think this scenario would be absolutely amazing for rebellion and would be the perfect way to set the stage for Sins of a Solar Empire 2.  Plus add a gameplay mechanic that many would love.  What do you guys think?

Even in victory, no one is safe.

Problem is that you will have to add all the new ship models and textures that nobody has the time nor the resources to do. And besides we don't even know if this "threat" is even a race you can fight.

^ it is a race... it would make no sense if that waas not the case. and that would be awesome if they added that extra stuff but i think its too late... rebellion is coming just with a warning not the actual ships...

Oh yeah... I understand it's too late for it to be ready for release.  It could however be done as a patch later on or as a DLC bonus.  Patch would be better since it's only an endgame challenge.  Or maybe even if or when they announce Sins 2 they add this idea to rebellion as a teaser and create some hype for Sins 2.  I've always wanted to see a strategy game of this type do this kind of thing at endgames. Because once you win a match and it lets you keep playing, there's not much to do other than clean up and admire your empire.  This kind of mechanic keeps the game interesting.  Rewards players that stick with a match for the long haul with a challenge and keeps you interested.  Given the lore behind the Vasari, Sins is the perfect game to add this kind of mechanic while staying true to the canon.  Like I said, I know it's not likely to happen and even if it does, it would most likely have to be a later patched in feature.  But it would be (in my opinion) an amazing addition to the game and fun as hell.

Or if Sins II happens (because there is no guarantee that it will), they just stick it in there.  It'll never happen in Rebellion; not now, not later.

I understand that.  The point of this is not to push for them to implement this, because I know the chances are slim to none.  Believe me, I have no delusions.  The point of this is to find out what you guys think of the idea.  It's a hypothetical discussion as happens often in these forums.  What do you guys think?  Is this something you would like to see in Rebellion?

Honestly, no.  It would completely screw up balance even worse than it already is.

It might be more fun if they were guarding the occupation planet instead of the Vasari, but that would only work if they already had fairly detailed plans as to whatever is chasing the Vasari, including ship designs. I wouldn't be surprised if they're still in the concept stage at this point.

How would it screw up gameplay balance.  This idea is an endgame mechanic.  It "only" comes to life "after" you win the match.  You know that screen that pops up and says you win with the option to either "keep playing" or "quit".  That's what the idea was for.  An endgame mechanic.  Not as a playable race.  This would be a challenge imposed by the 4th race in an NPC (Non-Playable-Character) only after completing a game.

You're probably right about concept stage.  As for the occupation planet, probably not.  Whatever is "chasing" the vasari, I doubt would sit and wait at one planet for you to come to them.

how about who ever is chasing them sent a little scout group so randomly on one of your planets or on the sun some of the chasing race spawn or "jump" 1 cap ship or just a couple of frigets or just 1 scout- give them allot of firepower and allot of armor.. and some cool abilities- id be down for that. have a warming go off that something strange has arrived. and add it to the loyalist vasari research victory- so right about when the victory is almost done u hear a warning...

it would be cool

if they did add a 4th race at the "end" - sounds more like a mod idea - add the shoddows or something at the end but it would have to be a no win - no way even with 9 players allied you still cant win - its a see how long you can last game mode
