stupidity abounds -or at least persists.

This is a bit of a rant about the what's in the gameplay constants [playerAISharedDef] and the research entities themselves.

Noticeably, the AI no matter what is like Forrest Gump with an unloaded shotgun and Nell shouting directions.

  • It doesn't research beyond a certain point.
  • Doesn't sell excessive levels of metal/crystal nor does it buy metal/crystal even if it has 40k credits.
  • If ships are bombing planet where there is a starbase protecting vs bombing, the ships don't disengage after population reaches zero -it just doesn't notice health isn't budging and move on.
  • If ships trying to phase jump and phase jump gets disabled, they don't stop attempting to phase jump and attack the source of the disabling.
  • Research Entity files have [priority 0.000000] or [priority 1.000000] which doesn't seem to mean anything when item has 1.0 priority -AI -at least noticed in 7DS with research heavy races like Atlantians, TOC, Empire, and TCA- just stop researching or research so little even after 4-5 hours as to be silly.

What about the trigger system?  All the promises and hype that this wonderful feature was really going to change up gameplay.  Well???  triggerCount 0 on every map.  Even after looking over the GalaxyForge included with Rebellion, the trigger system doesn't seem to be developed at all.

I think the trigger system is WIP.

Are you sure they don't buy / sell resources? I only play on ICO once a week but in my sp games the market booms and crashes all the time. So if the AI isn't influencing the market it must just be random.

yup, but play a game for 4-5 hours and quit -then look to see if AI is buying metal/crystal or selling it.
