Will Sins Rebellion require Steam?

I love Sins of a Solar Empire, and think it is the best strategy game to come out in a LONG time. I have bought every expansion as it came out, and have been looking forward to Rebellion eagerly. However, I was worried when I saw today that the beta was released only on Steam. I, for personal reasons, cannot use Steam, and I will not buy the game if I am required to use Steam in order to install it. Therefore I would like to know if Rebellion will require Steam (even if you buy the CD) and if it does not, how will updating through Steam work? I loved the fact that I could uninstall Impulse and Sins would still work on my computer. Will that be possible with Steam?

Yes. Rebellion requires steam, and I think like the expansions will only be digital download only. In regards to updating, every time you log into steam, it checks whether or not there is an update, and it will automatically download it. No, you need steam to run games.
