Fallen Enchantress vs. War of Magic

Whats the difference? Fallen Enchantress seems like War of Magic 2.0

Other then more things removed (Dynasties) , better city management and character upgrades, I'm just not seeing a whole lot new here. Disappointed that there are no new RPG/CRPG elements and after 2+ years they still can't get boats and island maps working?

War of Magic

- Research was originally Random

- City management bad (build house, build farm, repeat)

- Magic, no difference between air, earth, fire

- Boats/Ships removed

- Still can't play on Island Maps (need boats)

- Tactical Combat poor

- Dynasties

- Quests poor

- Hero/Champion recruitment too easy

Fallen Enchantress

- Research linear

- City management much improved

- Magic, seems the same

- Boats/ships removed or don't work?

- Still can't play on Island Maps (need boats)

- Tactical Combat poor (combat should be AP (action point based with more options)

- Dynasties removed

- Character upgrade is better

- Quests seem the same

- A few new monsters

- Hero/Champion recruitment in a lock box, it's lame, I don't get it?

- Unit/Army still can't upgrade units.

- Exploring/Adventuring requires an army because of all the creatures, seems like the wrong scale.

What am I missing or is this all there is to Fallen Enchantress?

The maps on FE seem to be a lot smaller, even though they are much richer. Playing on the "Large" setting in FE seems to feel like the "Medium" setting on WoM. Definitely going to have to try some custom map sizes soon.

I do miss the dynasty system I must admit but I'd be willing to trade it and a great many other things for high quality, engaging, and action packed tactical combat. FE is to me a step in the right direction but I'd focus 95% of the time from now until launch on making tactical combat more exciting and action oriented. Then again I've always been a combat kind of guy in just about any game I've ever played.

I hated WOM and pretty much only played a few hours before ditching it for good. I've been playing FE all afternoon and I like it a lot better. The lack of scrolling is killing me though. Boats would be good but so far I like what I'm seeing.

Yes they can.

Afaik dynasties are in but nonfunctional currently. There is apparently a setting you can enable to turn them on, but they mostly don't work under the current beta build (read this in another thread somewhere).

Ships don't seem to exist currently and I'm not sure if they'll be added (perhaps later).

I had a group of militia at level 3 and wanted to upgrade them to Red Guard, how do you do this?

I miss the dynasty system too. Who cares if it's a small feature, it's fun!

"You can't teach an old dog new tricks"

HOWEVER, you can upgrade your Militia's armor and weapons. Becoming a Red Guard would essentially be removing the Militia's training anyways so it'd be the same as disbanding them and hiring a new Red Guard.

Quests seem a little more involved and better then before, I think they still need more work and more quests.

Monsters seem to dominate game maps.

Regarding Tactical Battles, I LOVE the new Initiative combat system.

How do you upgrade an army unit's armor and weapons?  And can this only be done for units that had that upgrade possibility when their unit design when created?

When inside friendly territory, click the small button with two arrows pointing up on the far right side of the unit/army pain. In the pop-up, there'll be a button that says something like "Upgrade Weapons."

I was wondering the same thing, if upgrading can only be done if you selected to have the unit use the best armor/weapons available. I haven't tested this since I've just been using each faction's special units, which all have this option active for all their slots.
