Preview of new Stardock download store / updater

So with Impulse over to Gamestop and the digital distribution competition no longer something we’re participating in we’ve developed a new digital updating client – Stardock Central (what’s old is new again).

But unlike the old “big” client, the new one is very…very simple.

image

(sorry for the lame screenshot, I’m caught up on my games on this new machine and haven’t installed any apps yet).

Your Stardock purchases will show up here once you login. Just pick what you want to install (or update) and press a button and it’ll use our massively fast CDN to install it (we have a long-term agreement with our CDN except now the only thing using its bandwidth is our stuff so the download speeds are kind of ridiculous – it’s like being the only guy on a 1 gigabyte line).

image

The new settings includes an option to have it simply update your software automatically.  So you can either choose to stick with older versions or always have it up to date.

..

OK, let’s say you don’t like to have to install a client at all.  That’s fine too.  You can update your software and games via the web as well:

image

Pick whether it’s software or games and it’ll look at your account, when you last updated, and off you go.  The installer will figure out what you need to install (i.e. if you have multiple machines with different versions) and off you go.

It’s designed to be as streamlined as possible.

UPDATE: TRY THE LATEST VERSION HERE:

But Multiplicity is still showing as having an update in SDC?

Bara

Sorry, missed that question. Seems now that it is just showing as available in Impulse. Still not showing as installed software in SDC.

Currently, DX3.50 is the only thing showing in SDC or the store/accounts. Do not install it, as it is broken...

That s'plains it.

What SDC actually gave me is the much older (2008) 3.5 version instead of the most recent file(s) which i paid and renewed up until last April 2011 as DesktopX Pro.

Want the registration code, Stardock? If so, contact me - you know exactly where and how.

Sooooo... should i UN-Install Gamestop's Impulse (and the broken 3.5 above) in order for SDC to (eventually and before April 26th in my case, btw!) provide me with the most recent version of DesktopX and if so, will i still be able to access GC2-DL+DA+TA files as bought?

Still need some clear answers since Impulse seems to conflict with the current SDC features.

Bara, thanks for signing your replies. I wasn't sure who was responding and who wasn't....he he...

This has been a public service announcement from your neighborhood local Department Of Redundancy Department.

RedneckDude  or     X

I've been doing that forever :p

The best way to go about it is to uninstall all Stardock software using Impulse (although note that some games are still not available on SDC, so you may want to keep the games installed through Impulse for now), then re-install them using Stardock Central. If you are still running into issues let me know and I'll take a look.

Alright - let's try this solution for DesktopX since all other components seem to be listed correctly in my Account page.

SDC still showing the 3.5 file only after following your suggestion, bara.

So, version 3.96 mentionned earlier isn't listed or available --yet--?

Looks like i'm gonna have to cope with GameStop Impulse and THEIR unsynchronized files for authentic Stardock most recent updates.

3.96 was pulled back to have more work done on it.

3.5 Pro that is available in the SDC or the Stardock Store currently is non operational as it strips all scripts from all objects.  And that is IF you can get it to take the serial. The non pro version is fine.

Best to keep what you have. I have word that it's being fixed.

None of my Sins stuff (vanilla, Entrenchment, and Diplomacy) is showing up in SDC, and its not currently installed through Impulse, because my computer can't quite handle Sins.

The individual versions are not available through SDC yet, only Trinity.  For now, you'll need to use Impulse to install the games.

Shouldn't be better to merge these game at this point, at least for the ones that bought them all. I think in the end nothing changes but you'll have to manage only one game.

It's the same way for GalCiv II.

It feels like those who bought the games early are being punished by having to use Impulse if they want to re-DL.  (Harsh words I know, but I can't stand Impulse now)

Sins will be available on SDC.  You have to remember SDC is still a beta and there's still work to be done.

Just got a reply from Aaron Klenke in which he also states 3.5 is the latest "stable" version... any chances of fixing 3.96 - soon?

(PS; early growing pains :omg: for the new SDC only, i guess!)

My registration lapped for DesktopX - today!

See ya around, when some updates value outweighs rental yearly costs (30$+/IIRC).

In the meantime -- somehow this continent has shifted to #OWS priorities, all over the news. And iPads sell like mushrooms in the valley of Capitalism - checked Apple market shares & dividends paid to investors lately?

While FaceBook & Android... makes technology into a bubble device of growth and wealth, again.

Check out the X-Worlds #7A mod! The fleets of Alien Races are incredible on my PC, exclusively btw. XD

as long as eventually Sins and GalCiv 2 will eventually be on SDC I don't care how long it takes, I loved the old SDC, it was simple, easy and user friendly, and didnt try to sell me something every 5 minutes.

edit: i have stardock only games, and i want to be able to download them from stardock again.
