A different approach to phase lanes and the solar system?

So I always liked this game and the whole traveling from planet to planet through the phase lanes but it never really made much sense on the maps. A solar system with 20 planets and a dozen asteroid belts?

I had the thought that instead of each point in space being a planet each point should be a solar system instead. It could have varying amounts of planets and asteroid belts etc. You could even go into having different star types with different effects. Binary systems or pulsars or even black holes which could like screw up traveling near them.

So a map would be something more like a galaxy and you would travel from star system to star system through phase lanes. Fights inside of solar system would be more interesting because the game would be on a different scale.

Just a thought I had while playing the game a while ago. Feel free to use it whenever you get around to making sins 2 :P

I don't understand what you're asking.  It's already possible to have multi-star maps.  It sounds like what you might be asking for are maps with numerous stars with just a couple planets around them.  If you really want maps like that, you can design them yourself using Galaxy Forge or even the Map Designer.  It's also possible that other people have made maps like that that you might be able to download.

The general consensus, at least among players who play against other people online over Ironclad Online (what you might call "serious Sins players"), seems to be that multistar maps just don't make for very good games.  IMHO, it works out best with a map like Gateway where the players start on one star but another star or two is available for further economic expansion.  I've made a couple custom maps like that (with an extra star or two); I just wish I could get people to give them a try.

Yeah.  I wish I could get them all to use the Sins Optimization Mod and to learn to play custom maps.

I think the guy wanted more or less what Hegemony: Legions of Iron had some couple of years ago. In sins, we have one planet in every one gravwell and phase lanes connecting them. In Legions of Iron, there were phase lanes connecting, let's call them gravwells for a moment, but those gravwells consisted of a whole system. And so you had a multiplayer map with, say, 6 'gravwells' and each of them had a Star and about 4-8 planets spread about.

You know, that sounds like an interesting idea--what if you had multiple planets that could be owned and conquered individually within a single gravity well?  You would be able to place structures around the planets the same way you do now but they'd be limited to the same orbital radius.  That sounds very interesting.  I wonder if anyone could possibly mod something like that.  I would assume that it's hard coded and can't be modded.  I suppose that culture could radiate out from planets based on the distance from the planet.

Perhaps in a Sins-2 there could be an option for a game type like that.

Well... I think it would not work. Not on this Sins of a Solar Empire, unless it takes a massive overhaul. I can't be bothered with making a hundred line long wall of text about why it would not though, so I'll keep my reasoning to myself :p.
