Future plans include downloadable content

While the age of the expansion pack seems to be pretty much dead, Demigod lists in Impulse "Future plans include downloadable content."

So we're 6 months into Demigod. DLC is usually hot these days. And Frogboy says Demigod has had continued sales success.

6 months into the game's life is pretty "future" for me. But from the sound of it, there are no plans for DLC. Insight anyone...?

I'm pretty sure that's because all the current work is going into a free DLC.  I'm pretty sure after that is done they will start considering DLC to sell.  Of course, I'm a little wondering about that.  I mean, if you can have one guy who bought the latest DLC, that includes Supa'Cool, the best DG yet created... it almost seems like a 'pay money or lose' scheme.  Hopefully they will do something better than that.

The thought has been that future DLC will be for maps/demigods.  Everyone will be able to play in games with those Demigods, but will not be able to play as them.  Maps have more or less been scrapped from the DLC scheme - they cost more to make than DGs to develop - but they are talking about modding current maps to make them more interesting to the player base.

With Ready to Play going public, and the two new DGs around the corner, we'll see how the community reacts and go from there.  As it stands, I don't think we've got the community to support paid-for DLC.

The two new Demigods will be the first downloadable content and v1.2 has them. I think regardless of anyone's definition of how long it should take for DLC to become available, more balances and bug fixes ought to be in place before such DLC are released. It is quite unwise to pour more content on top of any existing bugs or balance issues.

EDIT: I misunderstood the road map for Demigod's DLC. My apologies. The 2 Demigods were never slated for v1.2.

I don't agree with this. Nothing is going to be bug free. MMOs add more content on top of bugs every day. I don't think its unrealistic to expect DLC somewhat swiftly these days. GPG just is focused on releasing SupCom 2 and/or doesn't care about Demigod, or cares about Demigod, but doesn't let the community know.

Its so silly Stardock shows more interest in supporting the game than GPG.

Personally i dont think GPG would release DLC requiring payment that won't have balanced demis.

Let's hope not at least haha.

Well first, because of the way MMOs are set up, they need the new content to retain the user base to make money. I'm pretty sure MMOs developers are also constantly fixing bugs as well. A buggy game does not retain their user base. This is true especially when the operational costs for MMOs are much higher than retail games, even if they're multiplayer-centric, due to the number of servers they need running. MMOs are also likely to be assigned a large maintenance/content development team, larger than any post launch maintenance team of a retail product.

I see where you're coming from. New content is fine as long as they do not depend on a buggy system supporting them. Otherwise, my point stands. Fix the system, then introduce the new content in that case.

I'm not sure how you guys managed to draw the conclusion that GPG has no interest in Demigod. Stardock is currently "representing" GPG's voice on the forums. To me, their presence here implies continued GPG support. We have to remember that Stardock isn't making v1.2 (though they are contributing), GPG is. The fact that v1.2 even exists is proof enough that GPG still cares about Demigod, because the resources necessary to build patches is NOT trivial.

I agree, but this is a stardock forum... I never go to the gpg ones, so I dont know if they are active there.

GPG, like 90% of all other developers out there dont speak on the forums that much.

However, Stardock is a special exception, and they post a lot.
