Why so long to quit?

In my increasingly fruitless effort to create a game that lasts a decent length of time I made a custom map with 100 stars each with 7-9 planets and have been playing this on and off for a few weeks now.  When I quit this game I get the stats pretty much instantly, however when I click the return to main menu button it takes a very very long time and pretty much locks up the machine unitil the main menu dispalys. I notice this also happens to a lesser extent with smaller maps (eg Random Huge). Does anybody know why this is? It is most annoying.

I get this too. It's most likely unloading all the textures etc from memory.

I get the same, especially after playing a long time, I think the devs are working on it

Dereferencing a massive amount of memory.  It's normal, happens in lots of different titles (ever played a script-heavy Warcraft III map?  Same deal)

Thanks - yes the game is typically using somewhere around 1.3G of memory when I Alt-Tab and look at it in task manager. So is there any harm in saving the current game then killing the sins process when I want to quit?

it prolly wouldnt take that much shorter to die... considering it STILL has too offload that memory...

Same here.

 

Loading is very rapid on my PC. I can load a 10 player, 100 game often in 10 seconds, but it takes about a minute to quit. "End Process" via  Task Manager is one very fast solution, although hardly the preferred solution.

Not for me here, see I play in window mode, so I just press x and it exits. Without going thru the lagging screen of tallying up all of the scores... But what I find annoying is that when you load up a game with a mod on, it runs smoothly for the first few seconds that it would lag like hell...and then it is all smooth again...but then again it probably because the game is applying the mod when it lag...

but sadly even if I exit via the x, my comp will lag until till it unloads...
