[IDEA] 1 Star Per Player Random Maps

I hope a DEV reads this. I just had a bit of an epiphone. Make a random mape mode where each person is going to get their own star. Say, 8-10 planets around each star, and 1 of those planets is a pirate base, so really 7-9. Devs, you can pick the number. Personally I say 8. No black holes. None.

Ok. Maybe get a set up for having one black hole per system, and all of these black holes go off into another "system" where you can go from one system to another via black hole.

No more being screwed by map generator:

This would also get rid of being screwed by the map's set-up. Random map generator does that sometimes. Now it wouldn't matter so much.

People will play Sins the way it was meant to be played!

I like the idea because you'd get to colonize your own system, and then head off to take another. You'd also be forced to make defenses because lord knows your opponents could come in from any other star, meaning we might finally see the mystical 4 starbases at a sun finally. This map genre could get reeeeally interesting. It'd essentially be you can colonize your own system, or take a risk and rush someone else's system.

I like the idea. It'd definitely be a different feel if in a 1v1 (ok, here not so much), 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, 5v5, because teams could actually look at the  map and say "Ok, he's really good, our best player should be tackling him" (I.E. When people tell me I need to fight off JJ when he's on the other side of the map)

It'll help stop the rush stigma that seems to be scaring people from playing online

This might take out some of rush stigma that's associated with online gaming at the moment. I like the possiblities for strategies this would procure. It'd definitely fit the sins mold and would be more accomodating to the single player mentality. Who knows. Might draw more people online. Might draw people to the game.

It'd be a nice change of pace to the current online gaming experience. That much I know. You go from a 4v4 on a single star large system game to a 5v5 where each person has a star and each person can tackle whoever he wants on the opposing side.

There is a map like that.  It's a 4 player map called Dopplegangers.  Systems of War is similar although it has an empty fifth star with many planets and gravity wells.

What we need is auto-download for custom maps.  If your concern is to reduce rushing, it's very possible to have single star maps that eliminate rushing.  See some of the custom maps that I've made (Ring of Risk, Asteroid Belt, Gateway to Paradise).  You can find them here:

I like that idea- it would turn Sins into more of a real  4X game. Probably easy to implement and enforcing different playstyle.  Seems like a breath of fresh air. I guess many people bought this game expecting slow-paced, real-time Master of Orion. While it may be more or less true for SP,  MP is much more fast-paced and looks more like RTS than 4X game, which scares typical Sins players away. Just my 2 cents.

Good idea.

It would be great if there were at least a big zip full of good maps, that a lot of people had. I'm sure something like that could be created and then circulated, especially if it had a couple of really popular maps (like big game hunters ;)) Raging, if you wanna make a map like the one you described, I'll d/l it and play on it.

I think this nicest part is everyone would be able to get some semblance of an economy going before needing to build a superior fleet.

Ancient gifts is somewhat like the black hole map you described. In it ther are 9-10 stars, but non of the systems have phase lanes to the stars. All the systems are linked by wormholes, and everyone starts out with the wormhole artifact on their HW. Only problem I have with it is that the average system on that level has only 8-9 gravity wells including the wormholes, so your empire tends to get a little stretched, but it certainly makes for a very different and challenging game.

I'm all for more multi-star maps for versus play, or at least more people playing them.

You know, I agree.  Because ICO doesn't have any support for custom map transfer, I think we do need a fan-based approach where someone puts together regular (and large) content packs that would be circulated en-mass.  There are people creating fantastic maps out there, but we need to make them mainstream to succeed.

It doesn't help matters that Stardock's service can take up to three weeks before they get around to approving you.

Well, you can create maps where people start with multiple planets, but then each one gets a frigate and capital ship factory at the start of the game.

Check out DirtySanchez's map pack.  People have played them online and seem to like them.

Im actualy just started working on a map that does just what youi want.  There are 7 stars but there are only 6 system with players homeworlds.  I havnt desided what will be in the 7th system yet, but all other 6 surround it in a tight round cluster.  At the moment i dont have a name for it yet so if any of you have some ideas feel free to share.

also Ive just uploded a new map called Lockdown that needs testing in entrenchment if any of you feel willing its on the first page of winCustimize in the sins map section since it was just uploaded.
