How do you write a Joeuser Article?

To make people want to read it!

So how do you write a Joeuser Article to get the points up there? My most points I ever got on an article was about John Deere tractors (which I love to death), my next would be a death article. It seems to me that the only articles that really get a lot of points are either something stupid or negative (see Alex I do listen to you). I really don’t like talking about stupid things, I like talking about stuff on my mind or something really bugging me.
I know people who write stuff and take there time and put a lot of feeling into and how they feel. Yet yea they get comments but it seems like there off the top not so much feeling, something not on there mind get more comments. Why is that? Do you know?

I don’t and would like to know. But am not going to write about something and is dumb and I don’t care about, there would be no point in writing then. I really don’t care about the points. I could care less. I would just like people to read what I have to say. I know it might not be interesting, to you. But to me it matter.
Some of me articles I would say you shouldn’t read, they are death traps, if you have to have punctuation or spelling right... But hey I am not prefect. And some just won’t make since. I think faster than I type so it doesn’t make since sometimes.

Well that is about all I have to say.

Do you mean how do you get an article featured on the front page? If that is your question then you need to understand it is up to the moderators. They get to pick what articles they think are informative, or well written, or thoughtful, or important, or strike their fancy. It can be pretty random, and has a lot to do with subject choice. Some of my most rapidly and randomly written articles have been featured because of content, while some of my most thoughtful and well written articles (in my opinion) don't, again because of content.

In the end the best idea is to not worry about being featured and consider it a happy surprise when it happens.

To paraphrase greywar, read this this and this for hints on getting points. From person experience, people seem to comment more to odd fluffy articles then deep thought out ones. To use a car analogy, everyone takes a quick look at the car accident, but few people join the mechanic as he rebuilds the car (or I would assume few people would). But having said that, I'm of the opinion you should write what you want to write and ignore the whole points/featured thing.

I would have to say make an interesting title...it is amazing how many times I get sucked into articles based on a well-worded title. I would also emphasize that you make sure what you're writing makes sense. Sometimes I write things that make perfect sense as I'm writing them but don't make sense when I'm done. Be sure to reread your article.

I agree 100%. A catchy title sure helps

Controversy always attracts attention, but if there is no substance to your writing, it will not bring you regular readers.

I know people who write stuff and take there time and put a lot of feeling into and how they feel. Yet yea they get comments but it seems like there off the top not so much feeling, something not on there mind get more comments. Why is that? Do you know?

Sometimes people just don't know what to say in response to very powerful or emotional writing, but you can always look and see how many people read your article, even if they didn't leave a comment.

I know it might not be interesting, to you. But to me it matter.

Those are the things you should write about . . . things that you feel passionately about or things that are interesting to you. You can use your writing to draw people in and make them care about the things you care about even when they might not have cared otherwise. You can use your writing as a tool to reach others.

Some of me articles I would say you shouldn’t read, they are death traps, if you have to have punctuation or spelling right... But hey I am not prefect. And some just won’t make since. I think faster than I type so it doesn’t make since sometimes.

If you want others to read your writing, you must take pride in it. That means you take the time to reread it, as The Fazz recommended, and go over it with spell check. Try to make it as flawless as possible. Sometimes it's a good idea to have someone else proofread it because we can't always see our own mistakes . . . we read something the way we said it in our heads as we were writing it, not the way it actually came out. Try to make your articles clear and error-free.

I hope some of that helps! Best wishes.

That is very true. Sometimes I read articles like that but I just can't think of a response when I reach the bottom of the page. Just because you don't get many replies doesn't mean people don't appreciate your writing.

I was mentioned in one of Texas Wahine's replies, I feel so honored!

The idea of in depth articles not getting as many points is not totally true. I wrote "Why Teens Are The Way They Are." That is one of my best articles in a sense of what got me the most points. Then I have "Modern Cartoons Vs. Their Retro Counterparts". That is by far my favorite article that I honestly put a lot of my feeling towards the topic. I honestly think I made cartoons almost seem serious. It is my second best. I had around 4000 readings of that article.

Then you look at "Gay WHAT?!"... it's just a desperate attempt for more points. I don't do that too often so I still got people checking it out. That's my top article because of the number of slandering replies alone. It's not because of how many people read it by any means. If that was what determined which articles were better then the cartoon article should be the top.

My point is that contreversy only works if you do it right. Constantly making articles that you know will make people mad isn't smart. A good example is SPM. He didn't exactly fit in at times because of the rude replies and articles he wrote.

Just write whatever makes you feel better about after saying it.

Capt. over and out!
