A few ideas for the mine issue in entrenchment

I have a few ideas about the mine problem

First, lower the max amount of mines allowed in a gavity well (to about 50 or so).  Now you have to be more stratigic in the placing of mines.  (such as sending a ship between gravity wells to see where exactly it jumps in, then placing mines there)  This will also help with performence issues, expcaly later in the game when 10s of thousands of mines could exsist.  (also no more "structure compleate" after each time a single mine is implaced, please)

Also,  I like the idea of a specilized Mine unit.  You could call it a engineer unit that can both install mines and dissasimble enemy mines. Dissasimbly would take about the same time as intalling them.  make it hard to kill, but have very little attacking power.  with this unit, take away the planets ablity to install mines and give the mine ablilty only to these engineer units.  You could keep some in your fleets or a few in your worlds for mine field install and upkeep.  They could have other abilties as well that might help your fleets out.

Also with less mines in each gravity well, make the mines "magnetic" within a set destance so that a less dense mine field is still effective. You could make the magnetic mine a upgrade for regular mines that you have to reserch.  After it is reserched, all of your mines would automaticly become magnetic.

Just a few ideas

I think each faction already has a few unita that could fill that role (just needs to be added as an ability).

The tec robotics cruiser is a perfect example: give it an antimine nanoswarm ability.  then all you have to do is send in a squadron with a few scouts   to make a hole for your more vulnerable/valuble units.

Maybe giving the antistructer units an AOE ability for use against mine fields would be another approach. They are awful expensive for doing just the one thing.

I can see how that makes sence, but personaly, i look at the robotics cruiser as a "medic" unit and mine clearing would take away from that role,  I was thinking they could use the siege unit also for mine clearing.  I never really build them anyways, and it also keeps the "engineer" role in play.  (siege engineers plus mine engineers = combat engineers "sappers")

i have issue with the fact that TEC has to place mines with constructor ship.  You only get constructor ships at plannets.  therefore i cant put mines at astroid feilds, space junk, gas giants, magnetic clouds etc.   All the other races use a ship to place mines so they can place them at those locations.

It would be great to have mine placement via a drop down menu.  Like attack formations of ships.  close spaced, wide spaced,  linear (one or 2 lines deep but all in a long row)  sq grid, auto and individual.   Say i want fill in 3 or 4 mines that were destoryed in my linear spaceing.  I dont need an entire new group of 20,  i just want to fill in a few.  CTRL click, click, click, click to place 4 the same way you would to desginate targets to destroy.

I agree that the tec seems to get the least out of its mines. Maybe they should make tec capital ships (like the carrier) capable of mine laying.
