Can you unload a transport or colony ship on al already owned planet?

...To add to the population?  If so, how do you do it?

Thanks much.

Sure.  That's called ferrying.  Just move the transport onto the planet, and then re-launch it with only 1 population.

You can build ferry ships by putting several advanced troop modules on a cargo hull.  With max miniaturization, you can build a ship capable of clearing or loading a planet in a few turns.  You can also build super colony ships by adding advanced troop transport modules along with a single colony module.

Sadly, by the time I get to the advanced troop modules, I find I generally have most places colonized - {G}.

But the basic troop modules will give you a 1.25 billion colony ship (one colony module, two troop modules), with 10 space left over for life support.

At a max increase of 75 million/week, an extra 500 million colonist saves about a month getting colonies to the point of profitability.

Run at 100% planetary approval and get 150M/wk.  Was that so hard?  Don't forget to get Aphrodisiac, either-that brings you to 1.5x75x2 or 224M/wk.  (As an additional note, your population growth ability is factored in when determining how much base growth you get in DA and TA, so it's doubly useful.)  Population growth can be bought at game start, but even before I capitulated to Breeder, I didn't use it, and frankly, it's not enough to compete with Breeder, either.

I'm pretty sure what he meant is that there is a hard-coded cap on pop growth per turn. I'm not sure exactly where it is, but 75M sounds about right.

I know, Willy, I was just having fun with his reply.  If he was that concerned with pop growth, though, I imagine he'd play Breeder.

Also, for what it's worth, it's definitely 75M.  And like everything else in the game, modifications to the base value are truncated, which is why running at 100% approval with a 50% growth bonus gives you 224M growth rather than 225M growth (assuming you've hit the ceiling on base growth).

Gee - you'd think we'd had this argument before or something - {G}.

For myself - eh, sure I could buy breeder, and as my skill increases I might get there, but for the moment I just stay at my wussy lil skill levels and spend points on research advantages  - Jonnan

Jonnan, if you don't mind my asking, what SA are you using at present?

Even though we're a little OT.

Ah yes...thank you!

Don't forget the cheap to build/buy recruitment center which provides a 20% population growth and 10% economic bonus.  It is usually the first thing I build/buy on a new planet.

I suppose ferrying would also be the more ethical way of unloading folks off of an overpopulated planet other than mass genocide by cutting a farm.  I kind of wish there was some penalty for doing that, especially if your shooting for diplomacy or influence.  And then conversely, a bonus for safely moving people to a new home.

It would truly be awesome if you could create tourist vessels that transport your people to another civ's worlds and give you an influence bonus for when you flip it.

This is probably obvious, but I'm not interpreting it at the moment: Define term= 'SA'?

On other subjects - Cutting off a farm doesn't kill people, it just encourages them to either revoke their citizenship or move to an underpopulated planet - Say's so right in the manual (Albeit not in so many words - {G}).

@Jonnan

Super.  Ability.  SA.

Ah - knew it was obvious - {G}.

At the moment, I'm playing the Unimatrix a Yor offshoot with the 'xenophobe' slowdown ability, which seems fun. Plus I want to play with the Yor tech tree - I'm fiddling around with modding and trying to learn the trees - {G}.

I'm a lttle surprised - I'm liking the Yor tree more than I thought I would from the beginning - that +3pop looks really lousy till you realize it combines with a morale boost.
