I feel like a cow...

..being milked with all of these mini expansions.  A campaign and an actually decent (and two-way) economic and diplomacy system should have really been included with the game.

these expansions better be dirt cheap ($9.99) is fine but there better be a full expansion pack's worth of content in there.  I don't want to end up paying $120 to get the full Sins experience.

So your argument is that there better be $30-40 worth of expansion in a $10 product or you'll be mad.  Great.  Keep in mind, unlike your analogy, no one's taking your money here.  If you feel Entrenchment doesn't warrant your dollars, don't buy it.

That would require a certain degree of self control which doesn't seem to be very common anymore.

If you're the sort that must obsessively buy everything a game company puts in front of you, then yes.  You're going to get the farm-animal treatment (as well you should).  Such is life.

I have to agree with that

I think in the end the three expansions will do a good job of filling in content and as you said they are 9.99 each so you are getting about $30 worth. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Wait I was thinking two mini expansions at $9.99 and one expansion at $29.99.  So that's 50 bucks. plus 40 for the origianl game. so $90.

About Entrenchment, i heard that it was just a few more units.  Are there any gameplay changes that make it more rewarding for turtle/conservative players like me?

Oh, and I already know about StarCraft II.  Retarded.  You should pay 30 for each and get a ton of content.  The first should not even be retail price because it dosen't have the full game with three campaigns, then it would be okay as long as there was a ton of content to justify the $90 for the full StarCraft experience.

Heh, you really need to do some research on the micro-expansion.  Read some of the front page previews from Gamespot and IGN.  Entrenchment is all about its namesake and giving options to those who want to defend precious planets.

There are epic starbases that can be upgraded to accomplish a variety of tasks and apparently grant bonuses depending on where they're built.  Plus, hangars' construction sites are now actually important so no more just planting them in direct orbit of the planet like I always do.  They can be upgraded with flak defenses so you'll want to use them to protect your other structures and fleet from strikecraft.  Gauss defense cannons can be upgraded with a sniping laser that lowers some attribute of enemy ships, most likely armor.  They also get short-range missile launchers that can target multiple enemies at once.  The two other races will have similar upgrades for their defenses, but surely different methodologies regarding defense.

The last thing I can recall is the addition of mines, which I anticipate greatly.  There's just something that fills your heart with warmth and glee imagining an all-powerful fleet of juggernaughts jumping into your system only to be pummeled by a wash of explosives.

piropeople13 - it REALLY seems you are shouting your mouth off about something you don't seem to know much about...

And I still fail to see how you get a figure of $120 for Sins including the expansions...

Just to rub it in:

Do you feel that having a $9.99 price tag with these micro-expansions was the right business move?

Not really, we've kicked ourselves a bit. At this point in development we've realized the price is too low, but the bar is now set for the other two expansions. Our team got overly excited, feature-creep sunk in, and we went over budget in terms of content and features. I suppose from the gamers' point of view it's a good thing, but are going to try and pace ourselves a little better next time around!

Oh offtopic but interesting:

Is Ironclad working on their next major project and if so what hints can you give us about it and will you be working with Stardock again for it?

Yes, we are currently working on our next major project, but unfortunately we can't reveal any details just yet. All I can say is that the game will be a strategy game unlike anything you've experienced before. We've discussed the game casually with Stardock but we haven't made any firm commitments yet. Given the great relationship we've established with the SINS franchise it's very likely Ironclad and Stardock will be working together again.

I guess that the OP hasn't tried Spore yet. This company is better than EA by far. They don't instal malware, remove content from the game to put it in an expansion, or ignore you.

I'll pay $120 to SD/IC before I pay $1 to EA.
End of FearlessDefiance's quote

Totallee agree with that ! The lack of an intrusive & disruptive DRM programme in all the products that Stardock sells is a big ++ !

The only reason I did not purchase Spore was the rootkit-type version of SecuRom it uses. I could have lived with the 3-activations limit, but not with a semi-malware inserted deep into my machine's C:\ drive.

My computer does not belong to EA : I won't allow it to implant into its bowels any stuff corporate suits decide is best in their interest.

Anyway ... I have found a way to play Spore without SecuRom : it's not even a smart way to protect IP. StarDock has realized that.

(I should not have declared on a Sins forum that I have played at Spore ! "Have" : the interest wore off very fast.)

I'm still "playing" spore, if you can call it that. Mainly it consists of building stuff in creator. The game just feels empty, and the space mode is kinda a joke. Seriously, combat consists of, fly in a circle so that the enemy can't hit you, while firing missiles. They say that they are going to fix stuff, but they never do. EA doesn't care about their customers like Stardock does. I'm glad that I bought this game. It is much more epic. Thanks again to the creators and developers of this game for making me feel like you actually want me to play your game.

I wont be buying the crappy parts pack for Spore, but I will be getting the micro expansions when they come out.

By the way, I got the entrenchment expansion for only like $7.50 because of a coupon code they handed out a while ago...  I wanted to keep it to use on not-MoM, but I think it would have expired by then.

No. $9.99 for each of three mini-expansions, which will then be compiled into one big expansion and sold for $30. If you buy the mini-expansions and the expansion, you have screwed yourself out of thirty bucks.

one big expansion and sold for $30.

Actually that doesn't seem to be the case (at least not for a boxed version).

I'm pretty sure I've read in several places that the three micro-expansions are going to be rolled into one boxed version.
