Strategy Core review

at last

Finally Strategy Core finished the review. The first post in Sins Game Review Thread does not seem to be updated any more, so I'm posting it here...

Any comments (either here or at Strategy Core review thread http://www.strategycore.co.uk/forums/Sins-of-a-Solar-Empire-Review-t7007.html) appreciated.

I really like that this game in multiplayer mode crashes 1 in every 3 games. The wonderful time you spent prepping up for an attack that does not happen because the game crashes. This game is the best multiplayer game crasher ever :)

Well, I'm not putting that into the review! ;)

This game is completely MP oriented, so be sure it will be fixed.

No it's not. I never touch MP for one. There was a whole thread in which people said why they didn't go online. They were mostly told that they weren't having as much fun as they could have, and that their personal opinions didn't matter.

I must have missed the topic. I stay away from the game forum after the game is released if I'm doing the review to avoid the influence from others.

I definitely think that "you're not having as much fun as you could have" is a very very poor excuse. I may be biased because I'm a SP player as well though. Some people just don't like MP much and they would have no more fun even if they did join the on-line play. But if there already was an extensive thread on that it doesn't need heating up again. Especially in this thread that is meant for you to give feedback on the review. ;)

Soooooo, what do you think of it?

"There is no rushing."

That depends entirely on the size of the map. Rushing with ships in the early game is a whole lot easier than putting up the appropriate defenses to counter them. Turrets may be cheap but you're not going to be surrounding your planet with them right off the bat (especially if a carrier with Embargo rolls in as soon as you're getting started).

And just out of curiousity, is 'lose' commonly spelled 'loose' over in Europe or is it simply that nobody in the free world knows how to spell this word (much like 'turrent' which is baffling to me)?

Otherwise, it's a functional review I suppose. I wouldn't have gone with a 10 for graphics but that's me.

'Lose' as in the opposite of win, or 'loose' as in the opposite to tight?

If you mean the former, then it's inadequate education.

Opposite of win. I don't think I've ever seen it spelled properly on a forum and again, lord only knows where 'turrent' came from.

When you discover the idiot who started spelling "newbie" n00b, then I'm pretty sure you'll find the source of the word "turrent" as well.

Very true, but compared to MOST other RTS games this is next to non-issue in Sins. A big enough map will also always eliminate the problem. I thought it was worth mentioning because it can destroy a RTS game.

Thank you for your views everybody, really appreciate it!

Actually there can be rushing if someone starts out close to you. Sometimes even on big maps, if you are unlucky enough to be 2-3 jumps from someone....kind of aggressive. I may have been guilty of this once or twice. ;)

One time on a huge single star random map, there was a phase line directly from my homeworld to an enemies. Good times.

If you hate rushing, you can find some maps that make it very hard, or impossible.
