Expansion Ships....

I just thought I would make a post concerning what we would like to see from Stardock for future ships/buildings in upcoming patches and expansions.

I had one for each race that I thought would create some new tactical oppurtunities.

Advent

Gospel Frigate:
A new crusier or frigate unlocked deeper in the culture tree that "bombs" a planet with Advent religion and knowledge - what it does is drains health points from the planet without killing any population.  This seemed like a logical ship because the Advent are out to convert the masses.

A later upgrade for this ship could be the ability to go immobile and act as a broadcast center.

TEC

Interceptor:
A new crusier that has "strikecraft" that lockdown trade ships and refinery ships and steals the credits and resources.  Seems logical that the TEC would have a unit that further increases the economic advantage they have.

Vasari

Enslaver:
A new support frigate that can use an ability to steal resource asteroids from its enemies.  Bascially sending in a crew to enslave the current workers.  This would work on both neutral gravity wells and hostile ones.  forcing the prevous owner to blow up the current processing plant and build a new one.

A later upgrade could unlock the stealing of credits from a trade port or a long term disable of civil and military labs.  This would have the same effect as destroying one (unable to build top tier units and research).  These would all be on long cooldowns.

These were just suggestions that I felt were fairly balanced... I like to hear what you ppl were thinking of - I'm sure that Stardock would like to hear it as well.  All I ask is that you think of balancing before you post - aka no "TIER 1 NOVALITH FRIGATE ZOMGLOLZ!!!1!!!11"  Thank you.

Nice ideas to work with, I'll take them ;)

If these were suicide ships, maybe.
Gospel Ship temporarily suspends enemy culture (60 seconds)
Interceptor temporarily disrupts enemy resource/trade stations (45 seconds)
Enslaver temporarily suspends phase space blockers (30s).
The ships would be crewed by fanatics whose sole purpose in life is to die valiantly thus the ships are poorly constructed except for the docking collar through which the lunatics run screaming and causing mayhem.  :CONGRAT:  The poor no longer have to work in fast food. They get no armor/shield bonuses from research. These ships are spaceworthy enough to travel but a trade/resource collector is built better ergo no shields and only mediocre armor.

They could theoretically wreak havok on just about any structure they plow into, but for sake of balance each race works against the enemy in specific areas.

Advanced research for the ships (could be suicide cruisers) gives them the ability to "reverse" instead of just temporarily suspend certain things.
Gospel Ship broadcasts causing enemy population to go insane weaking planetary health as they rampage around the planet.
Interceptor sabatours steal income to line your pocket and cause trade/resource ships to self-destruct (maybe a set timer or set number of ships?)
Enslavers reverse the phase blockers to affect enemy ships or broadcast distortion waves that (non-stackable for all 3 new types of ship) increase phase charge up for whatever is in the area of affect.

I think there should be a frigate or a cruiser that could capture enemy ships (10sec. for frigates, 20sec. for cruisers, 40sec. for cap ships) later it could be upgraded to capture enemy stations(60sec.)

seems like a very good idea, dude  :CONGRAT:

This ability ALREADY exists - it's the Sova Carrier's Embargo ability!

Vasari

This ability already exists with the TEC Colony Frigate and Vasari Scout when dealing with neutral mines. I think it would be better if there was simply a deep research upgrade that allowed the Vasari Scouts to enslave hostile mines.

Advent

Gospel Frigate:
A new crusier or frigate unlocked deeper in the culture tree that "bombs" a planet with Advent religion and knowledge - what it does is drains health points from the planet without killing any population. This seemed like a logical ship because the Advent are out to convert the masses.

I like this idea a lot. The benefit here would be that once the planet is converted, you wouldn't have to wait for the population to increase, nor would you have to spend money to re-develop the colony.

Maybe instead if they had a Suicide Run ability that allowed the Gospel ship to sacrifice itself by smashing into another ship might be more in tune with the Advent's religious zealotry. ;)

As for the other ideas, they're too similar to abilities already offered by other ships, and as such, don't really warrant a whole new ship.

Personally, I'd like to see the incorporation of espionage into the game, which would allow you to do covert missions against enemy and even friendly factions. For example, you could sneak into enemy territory and blow up one of their structures or disable one of their capital ships for a while, perhaps even while posing as another faction. The ability to capture enemy ships and use them in these covert endeavours would also be awesome. This may not warrant new ships, however, as these abilities could be wrapped into the existing ships under research upgrades.

Just give me 100 new meshes and I'll do the rest, better yet, tell me which programs convert from 3DS to Mesh and I'll use the 3D editor I got off the Internet...

I realize the Sova's Embargo ability.... and I love it, but it steals only the active income from the planet not what the trade ships have so a good combo would be to Embargo to lock all the ships in and then use the Interceptor to collect all the goods from the ships. Or if you don't like to use the Sova this would be an option.

The enslavers would be an upper tier ship or perhaps an upper tier ability for the scout to take over hostile mining complexes... I think this would be a very dirty trick to come in with a group of these and steal all the extractors from a hostile colony... forcing them to attack it and rebuild it.

Thanks for the good input tho.

@ Overloard

A ship that can steal a Capital every 40 seconds?... am I reading that right? I would just build like 20 of those and just steal whatever force comes at me....

You could have it so it doesn't affect caps like the cobalts sabotouge reactor or even better the rapture's domination abiltity.

Aaaaa not that it can capture a cap. ship every 40 sec. but it takes him 40sec. to capture one and abillity should have a rechearge time of 1h also you should be limited to only 3 borading firgs/cruisers at the time

Okay here's my tupense.
Why not try and implement some more espionage. What i mean? For instance why dont u include an option to bribe planets heavily affected by enemy culture. Instead of just turning it to a neutral rebel and practically useless planet. There sould be option to bribe the government and buy it out, with the structures associated with it. Instead of destroying it u could dismantle what building u cant use, and gain some resources back. Besides u will keep all the improvements built on it like survey, logistic and military slots, planetary improvements etc. Would be faster and more effective way to implement another more culturally oriented aspect of the game to win or attack:)
I think u should introduce a sabotage capabilties too. Even between allies (in non-locked teams ffa games for instance). And counter espionage of course to find out who is sabotaging you.
Sins already is far more than the usual rts, lets make it a bit more complex and fun. A step closer to GalCiv maybe:)
Especially if u implement a starbase defensive structures as well. That would fit perfect with a more culuturally oriented playstile, where u dont rely that much on a strong fleet, but on a culture spread and overrun and a strong deffences.
Or something like that:)

A possibly better name for the interceptor frigate (sounds like it interceptrs fighters) is 'customs frigate'.

However, a mainstay of science fiction is stealth and cloaking devices, which is currently lacking in SOASE. So I'd like cloaking device ships of various types. :D

Wether they should be like submarines - long-cooldown torpedo barrages, for instance, for their alpha strikes and subsequent getaway - and how to detect them, is details I leave to Someone Else. (My favourite forumite.).

In my opinion, there needs to be a whole entire third level of ships added on, between cruisers and capitals. But that's me.
