[filled] 3D artist looking for a mod
from
Sins Forums
EDIT: Looks like I've got a couple of good leads. Thanks for all the offers.
For a while I was going to work on my own personal mod project. However, I've decided to can the idea and look for a mod project to join as a 3d asset creator. I tend to get involved in a lot of things and have my own personal OpenGL game going on as well as a map for a contest UT3 is holding (forget about that map thing...I just hate that game so much I can't even bring myself to map for it. If I hear "take it!" one more time I'm going to rip my hair out!). On top of that, I'm a programmer for a state university during the work day. So with all that, I decided doing a mod from scratch is not a good idea for right now, but joining a team would be a better pace and more productive project to work on since I wouldn't be going it alone.
Things I will do that are supported in Sins:
- create/design new ships from scratch, concepts, descriptions, similar designs, or specifications
- abide by polygon limits
- uv texture mapping
- texture/material creation
- rigging/points for weapons, abilities, etc.
- conversion into the xsi, obj, x, and Ironclad mesh formats
- manage websites, forums, etc. (I do this at work so some days I may be zonked out from using the web too much)
Things that I will NOT do:
- rip assets from another game (this is illegal--this does not mean I won't make ships for Star Trek, Star Wars, Wing Commander, etc...it does mean that I won't reuse the files already inside of that game)
- edit/convert ships in mods from other games (editor and file format conflicts, plus I like to work on new content instead of playing the same old mod again)
Some examples of my modeling work are below. I never really got around to texturing anything, but most of them did have their UV's laid out and did get temporary horrible-looking textures for a while. I do have Painter IX and an Intuos3 tablet so textures are more than possible since I also do digital 2d art.
