Something everyone ought to watch.

I was replying to another thread and had this idea.

This is a video I stumbled upon a few months back and it really slapped my eyes open and changed my mind about a lot of things.

I think it is a video everyone should watch at least once.

So please, go ahead:
(This isn't some weird scheme, just a pure selfless attempt of mine to have others appreciate something beautiful)

Please do come back and comment on what you think about it.

Thanks!

PS: If it touched you, then show it to everyone you know, if it touches them, encourage them to show it to everyone they know, and so on.

It is indeed a humbling experience to consider just how insignificant we are.

Consider for a moment: of the billion(ish) people that were alive 200 years ago, how many are remembered as more than a name? Of the few whose names are remembered by history, how many have any rememberance of their personality, not just the events their lives touched?

It was traditional for a returning Roman general, while being paraded around Rome, to have a slave in his chariot, repeating "This too shall pass" in his ear, to counterbalance the cheering of the crouds. Not just glory, all things are fleeting. You, too, shall pass.

Can you honestly believe that, 200 years from now, anything at all will remain of your life? Everyone you will ever have known will be gone, as will your children and grandchildren. You will be a name on someone's family tree, no more.

Perhaps this explains the need of religion, the desperate longing to matter, even if only to a supreme being who cares about all? If I had that answer, I would be defying my own point - people would remember the person who could answer that.

I, too, shall pass.

Carl Sagan was a singularly fantastic voice. If you found the video interesting, you'd probably be well served to have a look at his other work.
