Halo Homefront

A Homeworld 2 mod

Hey there, I'm from Brokenline Studios to tell you about our upcoming project, Halo: Homefront, a Total conversion mod for Homeworld 2

Homeworld 2 is a space combat RTS, and is likely the best one around, with full 3d planes of movement, awsome ship AI and an amazing ammount of mod support. Homefront is a Halo based mod that will change the game to depict the epic space battles between the UNSCDF and the Covenant

More information can be found at our site http://brokenlinestudios.net/ and our forums http://brokenlinestudios.net/forums/, over there my name is overlordjebus, if you feel like sending me a PM, we also have a Moddb page, http://www.moddb.com/mods/9722/halo-homefront

Now, onto the fun stuff, the eye candy.

Currently we haven't released any Covenant ships, how ever we will be soon.

first off is the strike craft, since the games and books only mentioned longswords, we took the liberty of making our own strike craft, the Scimitar Light fighter, and the Halberd Bomber. We dont have a texture for the Halberd yet, but heres some pics of them anyway ^^

the scimitar (this might go through some changes in the future)

and the halberd

top

bottom

and heres a snazzy little size comparsion

the one in the middle is of course the longsword, y'know, for those pants on head retarded people out there

next we have the frigate, like the Forward unto Dawn or the In Amber Clad

Now heres another frigate we created ourselves, this is a Missile frigate, Its a lightly armoured ship which fires rockets in a continuous stream from the circular module at the front, designed to hang back till the covenant ships shields are down then fly forward and just pepper them with a constant stream of rockets until the enemy ship is dead

i remind you, everything in this mod that you see now is subject to change

heres our version of the destroyer, this is probably definately going to change, model and texture wise

now for a few more ship we created ourselves, these are the different frigates. Due to the UNSC's constant struggle with the covenant, the expense of building cruisers became slightly less practical, and the reliability and cheapness of the frigate chassis gave birth to a new generation of FFG's

the one furthest away is the light frigate you saw above, the middle one is the new carrier frigate, after the UNSC couldnt build carriers fast enough to keep up with the covenants wave of destruction, so the carrier frigate was produced, with an extended hangar so it can hold an extra longsword/halberd squadron. The closest is the heavy frigate, with increased armor, and more powerful MAC then its light frigate cousin, this is basicaly the child of the light frigate and the destroyer.

This is our own little Halcyon Cruiser, untextured but we are working on it, Like the Pillar of Autumn

and of course, the Marathon Cruiser (this is the ship seen at the very begining of halo 2)

the cruisers will be textured all in due time, dont worry.

The SMAC platform, the frigates there just for size comparison, the model will be separate dont worry

The UNSC shipyard

this will produce everything from the Marathon downwards.

and this lil beuaty is the Cradle Repair and Refit station

and finally the Astreaus BattleShip.

Only two Astraeus Battleships were ever built. The UNSC Contingency and the UNSC Field of Hope. Both were left in there briths, half constructed, when a Covenant fleet assaulted and glassed the industrial colony where they lay. The two ships survived, a testament to their endurance and power. The UNSC diverted billions of dollars to finish construction under a new name. That of Astraeus, Titan god of the stars.

and heres a size comparison of them all, and yes, the Astreaus really is that big.

thats all for now people, ill keep you updated as more stuff comes through ^^

so yea, any questions?

Posting a mod for Homeworld 2 on a forum of a different game altogether sounds a bit insulting to me. If you plan on making a halo mod for Sins, by all means! I've been watching for something like this and it sounds like a really cool idea. But for a different game altogether? Sorry, that seems way outta the ball park.

thats why i put it in the off topic section, as it has nothing to do with sins.

the team has no plans of making this for sins, although i do know some people who are getting together to make one, look out for that in the future.

Care to share who? Care to share ship models with the modders?

I agree... Since I have no ability to model, I appreciate anybody that shares their models. Is there any possibility you could share your models with the sins community? Are they in .Mesh format? If you have quite a few done and textured it would greatly help out anyone that is in the process of creating a Halo mod.

Currently we have no desire to give models away until they are complete, we would also like to warn you some of our models are... overly high poly, and we don't feel Sins would be able to support any sizable fleet of our current ships. The scimitar Light Fighter above is over 1k polys, the same as the kol battleship.

Once HHF is complete, we may release our models and textures to other mod teams to increase the range of Halo mods, but we would prefer to complete our own before we begin to do this.

The Scim isn't 1k pollies. it's just below. But yeah. Also that's unoptimised at maximum LoD, I don't know too much about Sins, but i don't think it supports as many LoD's as Homeworld 2, i may be wrong though.

Time for an update!

nothing new to report on the business side of things, so im gonna get straight to our newest babies!

our first covenant ships!

'The covenants counterpart to the Longsword, the Seraph fighter dominates space in swarms, spilling from cruisers and carriers like a cloud of locusts, these small ships are a threat to strike craft and cruisers alike.'

but not just modeled and textured, oh no, we're better then that

(Just a note, it isn't that large compared to the carrier, it's simply the perspective. Also that isn't our carrier, it's a stock one from the original game.)

But not only do we have a fighter for you, we also got the big guns.

The CCS was made by our slightly more elusive modeler, Tzarro, and believe it or not, it was his first model! (Don't worry about Poly issues. The model's being optimised heavily)

Any questions?

Ya know, seeing all the UNSC design-style ships together up there reminds me of guns. It sounds odd, but I regularly model 'human' style starships for a couple of games I run, and just for general portfolio stuff. The basic principle for all of them, and most that I've seen ambling around the place, are 'how big a gun can we build. How big do the engines need to be to move it. how much shielding does it need. how big does the power core need to be' and then all the various components are attached to the main weapon in the way that costs the least money.

we are not a naturally frugal species, so why this... sparse approach to ship design? I want big, meaty things that look like they could go toe-to-toe with an armada, and win just because it looks so damned stylish! Like the Cat from Red Dwarf totalling the entire Oompa Loompa population. Then going and playing with a big ball of string.

[Edit] I was so gobsmacked by the beauty of those models, I forgot to mention: Sins Want This. please? Those models are very nice, by the way. I'd be hard pressed to do anywhere near as good.

for the ships... i dont know what to say, our ships are based on Halo ships, all our frigate use the frigate chassis, the destroyer looks like a huge frigate, which is what we were going for. The cruisers use an hexagonal chassis, which we have stuck too, and come on, the Astreaus really is a ship that could kill a fleet with looks ;)

we have some very good looking covenant ships in concept, 2 of them are in the mod db page i posted, so check that out.

And as i said before, the models are just too high poly to be used in sins, they will crash the engine.

Sorry to be a loser, but do you have Bungies approval for this mod? I'm only asking because it would be a shame to get attached to a mod that will only get axed later (like the CnC Generals halo mod), especially one as mind-blowing good as this one!

What most people we believe is that Halogen was shut down due to its similarities with halo wars, and microsoft didnt like the fact that its franchise was being used to help another company, and saw it as actual compitition (just proving how awesome Halogen was). HHF on the other hand does not directly compete with any halo games, as an official space RTS would have to make massive sacrifices being made for gameplay and balance, something a free mod can get away with, but a priced official game can't.

dont worry, as well as some security we are doing, we also promise to release all material to the public as-is if we get the cease and desist order.

oh and about the model detail, the scimatar light fighter is just under the amount of polys as the kol battleship, so one squadron of fighters is like having 4 or 5 battleships flying around very fast, the covenants main is also the equivalent to 4 or 5 kol's, basically, just imagine having a fleet of 100 kols on every planet, i can, and its lagtastic.

If we got a C&D, we wouldn't be allowed to do that as it would breach the C&D (Part of the C&D includes deleting all material and ceasing distribution.)

And all the buisness with the Scimitar vs KOL is merely speculation. We don't actually know, and it's just an educated guess.

The buisness with Halogen is also speculation by us.

What is the MAC going to be like(cooldown time, damage, etc.)?

no offensce but i think that halogen and halo first offensive have better models and textures than you do. no offense but they do.
