Fleet Leaders & Create Fleet

Quick question about Fleet Leaders.

Usually I gather up a bunch of ships and click "Create Fleet".  At least 50% of the time, it makes the leader a little frigate -- even if I have several Cap ships in the fleet.

Is there a way to make a particular Cap ship the Fleet Leader?  To have a Cap ship automagically selected as the Fleet Leader every time you do a drag-group and Create Fleet?

Just wondering if there is something I'm missing or if this happens to everyone.

The leader is always the "primary" selection - denoted by the bright selection box (the others will be dimmer, so you can easily tell what the primary selection is).

To change it, just tab through the selection until it settles on the ship you want, then hit create fleet. :)

Thanks for that Annatar. Another quick question:

Why is it that when I select a LEV and click on the button to "build Metal Extractor", that the damn thing will head off to the FARTHEST asteroid to start building? This is really annoying. Like a bad joke from the Dev's hahahah.

I don't know, but to make back the time it takes the silly thing to fly there, you can just click on the planet and build through its interface, since you don't need to select the construction ships ;)

You could also turn off extractor auto-placement in the options if you want.

Yeah, I really like that you can just build from the planet. Sometimes its almost impossible to find your construction frigates.

Thanks for that too. Ok another one:

It seems to me that when your ships are moving, they stop firing at previously designated targets. Is this true or is it just a graphics thing? And if they stop firing, does that mean that a Cap ship fighting by itself for over 50% of the damage of a particular ship will get the full exp bonus for "finishing a kill"?

Exp is split evenly between capitals regardless of how much damage each one inflicted. It's actually awarded across the gravity well, so a capital isn't even required to damage any ship to get xp for it.

Your first point is true. Giving a move order cancels a previous attack order, though ships will still take shots at targets of opportunity if they are able, while obeying your move order. For example, telling your capital to move past a bunch of enemy ships will cause it to use its port/starboard weapons to attack the ships it's moving past while they're in its arc of fire.

Is that OpFire valid also for non-Capitals?

Yes, though the majority of ships only have weapons in the front, so their targets of opportunity will be more limited :)

They still do it, though. If you order them to pursue fleeing ships, and there's one in front of them within weapons range, they'll still shoot at it while closing in on your designated target.
