fighters vs bombers

confusion

so the way i thought about them is as follows:

fighters take out bombers
bombers take out ships (ie. frigates and larger)

am i wrong? cause other posts i see is that people are using fighters to combat frigates and such, they are supposed to counteract the enemies bombers that are chewing up your frigates and larger ships. there was one post titled 'gameplay mechanic issue' and the guy goes on and on about not being able defend properly while hes stocked up on fighters in his hangers...

In-game, the description of a TEC fighter does mention that it can attack certain types of ships (such as a siege frigate), but I do not know to what effective extent that is really the case in the heat of battle.

From my in game experience, fighters can attack frigates, and everything in the game, they just don't do a whole lot of damage. But mostly I use Bombers, backed up with Defense Vessels :D

For the most part, fighters kill fighters and bombers, and bombers kill ships.

Fighters have a limited anti frigate attack, and armor (the numerical amount) greatly reduces damage against anything other than the most weakly defended ships.

Fighters do ANTILIGHT damage, meaning they are great at taking ANY lightly armored target. This includes bombers, other fighters, siege frigates and long range frigates (like LRM boats). Basically anything with armor that is flagged Light, Fighters do 2x damage to. Bombers, on the other hand, do HALF damage to Lightly armored targets, as they are ANTIHEAVY.

Yeah, but how much damage do fighters do, compared to bombers.

I mean, if fighters did 1/4 the damage of bombers, then the 2x/0.5x damage thing would be pretty useless, wouldn't it?

What are the damage figures?

If you zoom in really close to a fighter, and you select an actual fighter and not the squadron, it has the in-game damage number (and hp)

True, but without accuracy and fire rates, that's not that useful. ;)

Unless the damage figures are for DPS, including accuracy? Anyone know?

I think (I hope) it is dps, but I am not entirely sure. I don't have time right now but an easy test is that the planet bombardment ships have a planet attack of around 20, and I think they do 20, but maybe they also fire once a second?

Or if you research 15% faster gauss guns and the number changes at all, that would be the real clue, but I've got food on, so I can't check now.

Bomber squadrons shoot every 13.5 seconds. Fighters shoot every 12 seconds.
Everything else is different for each faction. But relatively speaking, a full bomber squadron deals 80-100% more damage than a full fighter squadron against an armor type that neither is strong or weak against.

To put it in perspective, a full TEC fighter squadron would deal a little over 230 damage every 12 seconds vs. siege frigates(2.0 damage modification). A full TEC bomber squadron would deal a little over 100 damage every 13.5 seconds vs. siege frigates(0.50 damage modification).
