(Router Issues) with Multiplayer kills it.

I had really high hopes for this game, I still think its very well done. Unfortunately, the multiplayer support is abysmal. I've been unable to join or host any game and I've stared at my router settings longer than I would normally consider healthy. I'm spent.

I've tried opening ports as well, as per the suggestions in the faq. Unfortunately, the router setting prompts me to add an application name, so I have no idea what to input.

That generally is just for your own reference so you know why you set the forwarding when you look at it again later. It doesn't have to be anything specific.

We have a new version of ICO coming soon that should solve most of the joining problems (caused by ICO listing invalid games to join). However, we still need to figure out how to get your router to portward 6112 to your local ip. Have you tried the portforward application listed at the bottom of  https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?forumid=402&aid=174432

Can you write up every step you are taking to port forward ? We can usually figure out the problem by seeing the whole process.

The is currently an issue with already started games lingering in the join list. When you attempt to join these, you will get a "Rejected by host" message--that's likely what you're encountering.

Hosting only requires port 6112 TCP forwarded to your machine. Joining games should not require any changes.

I went into the router settings (by typing the ip address into internet explorer) then I went to the gaming and applications tab and the port forwarding tab. I forwarded 6112 to my desktop's ip and also tried using the range 6000-6112 just to be safe. I still get that error message before hosting a game.

P.S. I'm just really frustrated right now, but don't let that fool you; I love Stardock and their excellent support.

Is your firewall on? Is it blocking Sins?

Just a random thought... does your router have a selection for UDP or TCP when opening/forwarding ports?

If so, you need to make sure you select -both- of them, then try it out.
Worked for me.

Can you try connecting directly to the modem just to verifiy the problem is with the router? Or alternatively does your router have a DMZ or Gaming Mode?

Make sure it's not a double NAT issue- this is the most overlooked thing in the world... many many many ISPs provide gateway/modem combos- that if not configured correctly will cause double NAT issues. Once you've opened a port on your firewall, verify that it is open by running a port scan on it from the internet.

Seems to be decent enough, though Im sure you can find better. If you've opened up the port on your firewall/gateway/router and it's not showing as open with an online portscan it is almost -certainly- a double NAT issue.

No on the 'both' setting or DMZ mode. Moving my computer to the modem now... X-(

What's the make/model of the modem?

so what is the problem with using the HTTP or FTP port rather than 6112 - surely this would make it work on most machines?

I've run into this and each time it's either the router or firewall.

Make sure the router is forwarding port 6112 to your PC and make sure you don't have Windows firewall causing trouble (that was a bigger pain to solve).

My modem is an Arris TM502G. No, not working when connected directly to the modem, either. My head hurts...

Firewall is off. 6112 being forwarded. Nothing. Ow.

Are you running any other special network software like hamachi? BitDefender? Avast? Norton? ZoneAlarm?

Can you host a game in any other RTS games?

yeah im sorry but right now multilayer fails. ive done everything ive been asked off and i cant join. yes im mildly pissed =p

No special software running, I've never really played other RTS's online, but I have hosted Diablo 2 games through direct ip connect.

Silly question but once you create the custom service, are you actually activating it? I say this because in a lot of routers, it is not really clear that when you go in and create a custom service and enter a port range etc. That you then have to go back, find that service in the list, enable it and sometimes even at that point tell it which computer name on your network (or IP address) to link it to.

Also if there is already a service listed for Battle.Net (there usually is) you can use that since 6112 is the exact same port. If your custom service is not working maybe the Battle.net built-in one will work for you.

Well im jsut curious. Do I have the ports forward corectly.

You need to have port 6112 forwarded to your local ip address. You can do that from "Single Port Forwarding". Just put 6112 in for the port number and then select "both" TCP and UDP port types.

I've been having the exact same problem, haven't been able to play a MP game yet thanks to "connection failed:rejected by host" thing. It comes up for every single server on the browser.
