Question about tactical gameplay

Hello,

I've preodred the game because it is being published by same ppl who published Galactic Civilizations I/II and because it is a niche title based on space opera which we can't see often since the end of 90s. However I have a question about the gameplay. To be more precise I want to have some additional information about tactial engagments.

Ok my understanding is that you have these engagements inside gravitational pool of the planet. However what any review isn't saying is how deep are those battles ? Is it a crappy 2.5D from Star Wars Empire at War or is it a full 3D like in Homeworld series ????

As far as I'm concerned I would prefer having full 3D combats rather than just having fighters and bombers changing the plan.

My other question concerns quality of battles. Are those battle won by who has the bigest fleet or by who can outsmart who which means that an army is only good as is the general commanding it. In otehr words can we win a battle when all odds are against us something like the battle of the Buldge in WW2 or like the battle of Austerlitz.

Thank you.

Full 3d, use the ~ key just like HW. Ships don't move during combat unless you tell them to. You can win using superior tactics (takes alot of micro though) and it should be easier come final release. Someone will come along with a better reply soon enough...

i recon that superior fleet composition can also win you a battle when you are outnumbered and or outguned

Structures are forced to a 2D plane, but the game itself if full 3D. Ships use a (small) amount of 3D automatically, but you have to do manual if you want them to make use it to its maximum.

They are off the planet now actually. They spawn at varying heights, it gives a much cooler look.

Bleh, 2D plane relative to the planet's plane :P

Its 3D in beta 4 too! (If only a little... how far did you guys accentuate it?).
