Not able to jump back into game when disconnected?

I'm not sure if this has been overlooked, but the ability to take over an ai position in a game (subject to approval by the host naturally   ) may go a long way to helping fill the games up. Also, I was briefly disconnected in a pretty large game this evening but had no way of rejoining or letting the other guys know it was just a tempory blip and asking if we could reload an autosave or something... being able to take over from the ai would have sorted that problem.

I believe the devs have said there won't be any sort of join-in-progress functionality to Multiplayer.

I think that was specifically targeted against people who wanted some kind of "constant world" MMO mechanic. The ability to deal with intermittent "blips" would be lovely if they could figure it out -- though I suspect that will require a (working) load game feature.

it would be nice to message someone who is IN GAME from the lobby...

It may have been, it was a while ago after all But unless this is already in the pipe, it might fall under 'major change and not enough time to implement'. I guess when you're able to reload an autosave before the crash it sort of allows you to get back in the game, but it is cumbersome since everyone needs to quit and start again.

Yes, but as far as I know we're still playing with a very bare-bones ICO lobby?

Hopefully such a feature will exist at some point. Sword of the Stars had it and it was wonderful. No one around? Start up a multiplayer game with some AIs, and people just hop in and take over as and when.

Awesome

It would be good if one disconnected , that the host can save game. Reload the save game , and everyone can rejoin and resume the game.

hopefully.

also to the op: yeah, that would be a very nice feature to have if you can allow people to join in during the game and take over an AI. when the AI gets better it wont even that bad a starting position.

but as other have pointed out, if its not already planned I doubt there will be enough time left to implement. maybe in a patch or exp ...

FYI: Experiance has shown that feature bugged (unless they've fixed it, you can't load a saved game).

You know what would be really nice? Label people "in game" as being... in game!

I'm aware of that I haven't tried restarting from a save in B4, but that was a B3 issue and may have been resolved

Once ICO (hopefully) has private messaging functionality, you can just msg someone in-game and have everyone restart from a multisave so you can join back in.

It was a beta 3 issue, but it turns out it works mostly fine in B4. We had a -- huge! -- issue with a save taken after the player dropped out -- we ended up with the player in question being controlled by the AI, even though he was still in game! (The AI even sent AI PSTs for him... O.o)

yea, he could build, research, and message but couldn't control where ships went, and the AI still talked over him.
