Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor

Second expansion pack coming soon...

Stardock is pleased to announce the second expansion pack to its award-winning PC strategy game Galactic Civilizations II.  The new expansion pack, entitled Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor, takes place shortly after the events of Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar and puts the player in control of one of 12 unique civilizations ranging from the humans to the evil Drengin to the mysterious Thalan.

Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor aims to greatly expand the wealth of content available to Galactic Civilizations II players.  New features include the solar system destroying Terror Stars, unique technology trees per civilization, unique weapons per civilization, unique planetary improvements for different civilizations, a map editor with a 3D engine, a custom scenario editor that allows users to create extremely custom games that can be shared with each other, Metaverse tournaments, new graphics, special new ships with corresponding ship components and much more!

The expansion pack has a target release date of November 2007 and will list for $29.95.  Users can pre-order it directly from GalCiv2.com at a discounted price.  It requires Galactic Civilizations II: Gold Edition or Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar to be installed in order to use.

Also MORE LOGOS and pictures for alien races to select from. Don't bother with what the race fitting to the pic will be like, the imagination of the player will do that part

there are lots you can download from the library

- Ah, and MORE SHIP PARTS, a thousand or so would be nice .

while i agree that it'd be exceedingly nice, i've tried to figure out how those textures work on my own and it's really hard! i think it'd be hard to add that many new components - though perhaps they could save a bit of time by re-using some common wireframes with different textures (i'd certainly like to see improved textures for the old ship components from DL that didn't get them in DA).

What? You actually to see what a Dread Lord looks like. AFAIK, they're only supposed to appear in the form of their flame logo.

that's how they look in the diplo screens, but i swear i remember an ominous humaniod in a hooded cloak carrying a staff.

Yeah, that's what they look in the Planetary Invasions too. Humanoids wearing red cloaks(but the planetary invasion screen is rather primitive). In The Reluctant, they also appear to be 'ominous humanoids', but carrying swords. They can also teleport just by focusing and all the sort kind of stuff.

Yes, and I used downloaded logos and racepics a lot (have 140 racepics by now, some from my private Star Trek picture collection ). The point I want to make is that it would be nice to have them already installed in the main game, not necessarily those from modders from the library, but new ones.

wow... i can't imagine why you'd need so many, but hey every opinion counts for something. personally new ship pieces are what i'd want more than anything else from the art department.

I'd be interested in the idea previously mentioned @ Designing Starbases. What would be also pretty interesting is if you could customize responses/text from a customized race you create. What would also be cool is if, a particular ship could be hailed and a comms image of the commander/captain would appear and the text would also be spoken in different voice sets and so on.

you can mod this... in english.str, i think. but i don't believe it can be changed in an MV game.

For individual races? Well, I was hoping for a sort of integrated tool to modify it, so the user could directly do so along with the race customization in-game.

Multiplayer is still the most important part in a game like this for me and many people I know. Please add MP so that we don't have to play Master of Orion 2 for the next 10 years.

I have to agree with Bl4cksh33p on the multiplayer thing. I would love to see it. Not to long ago me and my friend had a small lan party, just me and him. There was suppose to be more of us, but we were the only ones to show up lol. Anyway, we tried to play Dread Lords only to find out that there was no multiplayer and that metaverse was single player that kept record of your wins and stuff. We were very disappointed. We even resorted to playing Master of Orion 3....that's how bad we wanted to play a semi-current space based strategy game and MOO3 was the most current one we had. I love turn-based strategy games for multiplayer. I still play Birth of the Federation with my friends and Galactic Civilizations, especially Galactic Civilizations II and its expansions, is way better than Birth of the Federation, so I beg you guys to make a multiplayer! lol

I play Birth of the Federation, too.

I hope there will be a MP Patch someday. GalCiv 2 is one of the (or THE) best turn-based game I know so far and the next addon is already pre-ordered.

What's GC2: gold. I just have the first one before DA. Dose this mean that I have to get 2 expantions. Within a few months of MP3,too. Ouch!

Part of me wonders if the best way to get a space-based MP game is to take BTS and mod it. I think that's more likely then GCII ever going MP.

GC2 Gold is a combination package of DL (which you already have) and DA.

Can I use my tokens on TGN to purchase Twilight of the Arnor. I do not see an option to do that.

You can preorder TA for three tokens at the TGN site.

I'd buy TA for sure, even if it ends up getting bundled with the other games again (Cause honestly, I don't trust online purchasing too much).

Which brings up the question anyhow: Are you gonna release TA on storeshelves as well, or only online?

For those of you aching for Multiplayer in GalCiv 2 I don't think its going to happen. That's fine with me as I don't have enough time to coordinate something with someone else for days at a time.

If you are aching for a space strategy game with multi-player have you guys heard of Sword of the Stars? I very much enjoy this game though its not to everyone's tastes. There is a demo out there so you can try before you buy. I think it might fill your hankering!

Looks like it's going to be online only, at least for now. If you order a CD it will likely be just the CD in an envelope as with DA.

i think that file is actually set up like a matrix: you can not only modify the speech of each race, but how each race will respond to every other race specifically. most of the races use a generic set of dialogue, but if you were ambitious i think you could take it much farther than the devs... i can't remember for sure though.

edit: and yea, a comfy UI to do that would be nice, but no dealbreaker for me.

I have a high end computer with ...., four MB of RAM, and four megabytes alocated to virtual memory.

Let me guess - with Windows 3.1 installed OS?

LOL, yep, sounds like he is using up most of his 10MB hard drive just as memory. Might need to reconfigure his HIMEM settings.

Seems that I'm going to have to upgrade my 7300 GS video card
Ahwell, it's about time it needed an upgrade anyway.
TA sounds great.. I'm going to pre-order it.
Obviously.

First, are there suppose to be screen shots of TA somewhere? I didn' t see any but the prteview screen says "screenshots". thers only the box shown there.

Are there going to be any changes to Diplomacy / race relations? i didnt see it listed but i wasnt sure iuf that meant there definietly wasnt going to be any. Just wondering since i posted a bunch of ideas way back for new ways to wroks relations with opponents.

Awesome! But I didn't see anything related to race. If Humans conquer an alien planet, I doubt all of the alien beings would just disappear... but it will be awesome either way!

That is NOT right. I am supposed to have access to all products including GCII products and add-os with my credits from TGN. It's time for Frogboy to step in andcorrect this .
