About Racial Bonuses

Just a few quick questions, here. (P.S.: I'm playing the latest build of Dark Avatar).

Firstly, is it just my perception, or do the Yor start off with significantly more powerful bonuses (and better techs, too) than any other race? Most noticeably, they begin with Ion Drives and Stellar Cartography, two key elements in the "colony land-grab" tactic when beginning a game (I'm sure you vets know all of that, though).

Also, do the extra five ability points you get when creating a custom race tend to bring them on a level with other races that have inherent abilities, or are you going to end up with something slightly weaker (but more specialized, if you choose) than pretty much every pre-made race? (Note: Don't get me wrong, I like all of the default races and think they're very well done).

Finally, I sometimes get confused when trying to reset a race's statistics and settings back to default. What I mean is, sometimes, I want to reset the name, home planet, leader, chosen abilities, and political party back to what they were before I messed with them. Seems like they choose their political party at random (true?) whenever you "Clear", and it also seems like the Terrans always start with all of their ability points already spent, even when you "Clear" them.

It's not just Yor perception. (ok, sorry)

The Krynn are arguably even more heavily favored, though, given how ship defense currently works in Dark Avatar.

There are a few custom races that are fully competitive with the best stock races (such as anything based on +2 speed & +30 economics & super breeder).

Doktor,
Not that the Yor don't start off with good stuff (though rather than 'significantly more powerful', I would characterize their bounuses as 'the most obvious'), but you may have missed the fact that ALL races, except the Terrans, start off with Stellar Cartography, and several others start off with Ion Drive.

Indeed, before significant numbers of additional ships can possibly be built, other than by the very questionable strategy of rush buying all early ships, almost any race can have Ion Drive. But if you go one tech further, to the first Impulse Drive, before you switch to another tech development line, you usually don't need to build ships with Ion Drives ever.

So often there are subtleties that balance seeming powerful advantages.
