Saving Ship Designs within the 'Same' new game

Is there a way to save ship designs within the same new game you just started?

I'll explain what I mean. This is my problem:

I start a new game, I make some bare bones (no engines, weapons, etc., starting hulls) template designs part way through. I screwed up, or I'd like to redo something, so I go back to an old save from the same game. I find that none of my "template" designs are to be found even though it's the same race same game, just earlier before I created the design. However, since it's a template with no functional parts shouldn't the design save for the race permanently?? It's just kind of annoying that I can't use those designs till I start up a new game or If I don't backtrack at all in a current game. I sometimes spend hours just on designing ships, it's like a whole other fun game.

Any way around this?

I start up a brand new game with the same race and all the designs are there thankfully.

I was thinking about this and it seems like something that should have been in from the beginning and was just overlooked. Think about it, when do you most need those ship designs, in your current game, because in your next game you might have new ideas or get bored with the old design. What is the point of spending all that time making a design when you can't use it in your current game unless you never back track. It just hinders the fun of the game for no reason.

So, is this something hard to implement at this point? Why can this be done for a new game but not the current game? Can't the current game just refresh the 'race ship list' every time you save a design and then display the new list right away even when restoring old saves? I don't see what the problem is...

Did you check the Save Ships to Hard Drive box in the Options menu?

Thanks, is that a new option in the expansion and does that address this problem? I don't see it in 1.31.

I thought it was in 1.31 but it certianly is in 1.4.

it always gives me a warm fuzzy feeling when i see an annoying problem solved and fixed. Perhaps the universe is not such a cold harsh place afterall!

That does not fix the problem. I run into that on occasion (like when the game crashes right after designing a ship). It's a big pita imo.

I would really like to see an option in the ship builder to "restore obsolete ships" that would include non-listed new designs. Deleted designs should be gone forever tho (although they can still be seen in the ships folders).
