Plz help, newbie with some questions - THX!

Sorry if I seem thick, but I'm not getting this. I've tried this a few times int he game (just got it last night so I've the latest 1.2 version). I a few issues.

1)I try to make a new ship design, and any visuals (eye candy I guess) to make the ship look different or cool, doesn't show after I've saved the design. It simply shows up with the new name (and new components) as the basic template that I started with. What am I doing wrong

2)I try to upgrade ships after say getting a new engine type, or weapons. I see no option to add these to existing ships. I'm only a few turns in, but the only option I get is to totally update to a colony ship or constructor - I saw this with my flagship even, wierd. What am I doing wrong here?

3)I'm trying to add modules to my starbases. I made three and eachsay 0/2 modules. However, when I send a constructor over, it gives me a message " The starbase cannot be upgraded because there are no new modules available" Is there some tech level I need to obtain in order to add modules and upgrade starbases?

1) I don't know, sounds like a bug.

2) you have to upgrade the design in the shipyard. You cannot add anything to an existing ship, just upgrade it.

3) Yes, techs are required to build anything on a starbase. The factory techs and the starbase weapon techs to be specific.

#2 - you mean that I need to update the design in the shipyard, then when it's saved, rename it (like cruiser mk 2 or something), and then I can upgrade other ships to that ship type?

Is that how it works?

Yes. Update in shipyard, then you can upgrade the old design to the new. You MUST change the name of an upgraded design to mk 2, or rename it anyway you like. If not, you get some weird bugs.

I've tried this and I can make the ship, but the graphical additions - non-component things that are purely for aesthetics to make the ship look cool or different from the other version, they don't seem to take, or they show up in wierd places, different from what I designed.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong??
