Question about DesktopX and .dxpack

I'm sure I read somwhere that the interface can be changed by editing the .dxpacks with a free program called DesktopX.

After looking into the matter it seems that very few things can be acomplished by editing the .dxpacks and DesktopX is not free.

Is this correct or is there a freeware version of DesktopX that I havn't found?

And can anything be acomplished via .dxpack edditing.

Well I haven't heard DesktopX is free. I bought mine a while back. It's worth it IMO just for the cool things and being able to 'mod windows' . There are other things that are free like certain XML editors, or open source things like Blender or The Gimp. 3dsMax isn't free but you can ask them for a trial version.

Yes the GUI is .dxpack. So basically, if you want to change the game screens / interface then you'll need it (DesktopX that is )

If you just want to open the *.dxpack files, follow the Link. That one will do. They are sort of zip archive. You don't necessarily need desktopx
