Hey I was curious, does the AI tech trade with other AIs?

Unless you activate the No Tech trading option in the beta

(just wanted to make things a little more complex )

Has anyone tried the no tech trade option with the Beta?

How does it effect game play?

Is tech bribing still allowed?

I assume the human cannot trade techs with the AI neither?

No tech trading means no tech trading period.

It actually makes it very hard to bribe anyone because you cannot give them tech to improve relations or end wars.

I didn't think I would like the *No Tech Trading* option but to be honest it has been fun. It tends to lead to a more balanced tech race in terms of leveling the playing field for everyone rather then having a wide gap between haves and have nots.

And yes no tech trading means that you don't have the option to try to bribe them. But I've found that the best bribe you can use is a well tuned Phasor .

I prefer giving my enemies the business end of a Black Hole Gun.

I would like a non-abusable tech trading method, but I don't doubt this will be addressed later.

What about cold hard cash? Or Trade Goods?

I had. Game goes quite slower, because there's less money from slower growing pop, and NO money from tech trade. I'd say at the current AI's state it can't cope well with that option, as it gets quite some holes in their "knowledge base". From my current game I see Thalans don't have a single trade line, and it is turn 165. But they had the best econ, no wars and were in lead for most of the game.
A side effect of no-tesch-trade is also the tech AIs had is hidden. You can't see what they have. The only thing to get a clue is regular checking what they're researching, or looking at planets/ships, if you have high enough espionage level.

BTW it is still possible to get tech by invasion. I still don't know for espionage.

Those are my two reasons for liking the No Tech Trade option.

I don't like 'no tech trading". Makes the game feel to "quiet" to me, at least on 'normal'.

Maybe a "limit tech trading" option. Maybe "limit tech trading to 2 trades a year", or something?

sounds like a very boring game... we play this game for fun, right?

How does this leveling the playing field? How does this close the tech gap? If a race can research faster than all others, then without tech trading, No one will ever be able to catch up with him. It acturally let to an even WIDER gap that could never be closed (say ... it takes 20 turns for him to research 5 techs, but all others 3 techs. A small advantage, but after 100 turns of playing, he would have 25 techs, others only 15. After 200 turns, him 50, other 30. 300 turns, him 75, other 45. so on and so on...).

Further. As the tech gap advantage increases, it becomes harder and harder to elimated him, keep him down, or even be friend with him. this race would become so powerful that he could take on everyone at the same time. there will be no balance; playing field could never be level (no one can trade tech!!!).

"Tech trading" is just a tool, just like all other tools in the game (battleships, starbase, money, ec.). It is a good check and balance tool, specially for a smaller race to stay in the game. people really need to learn to use it, instead of avoid it (by not let others use, and let to a boring & unbalanced game).

just my 2 cent.
