Stardock: Click To Enlarge

I have a suggestion for Stardock to improve the visibility of some of the information screens. I like to play Microsoft Flight Simulator at high resolution because it makes the scenery look better. One problem with very high resolutions is that it makes the airplane guages difficult to read, because all of the read-outs become very tiny. I have the same issue with GC2, especially with the ship launch screen at the bottom of the main display. The ships are displayed smaller than the forum emoticons.

Companies like PMDG and Abacus that make add-ons for MSFS have an elegant solution to the problem: they make guages that enlarge considerably if you click on them: Click To Enlarge. I am hoping that this idea can be used in future patches of GC2.

Hmm... You want Stardock to implement a change in the code to accommodate an issue that you can fix by simply setting your own system to a lower res? No offense, but I gotta say don't count on it...

With each tweak to the code, a whole new set of QA tests have to be set up and run to ensure all is hunky-dorey. Every add to the code has the potential to wreak havoc somewhere else. As a Tech Writer for a small software company, I see it every day. As "improvements" are made to our products, I document new procedures on their use... only to have to go back in and tweak the docs somewhere else, because the "improvements" have jacked up another aspect of the software. Release gets delayed, sales people get pissed, etc., etc.,...

OK... I just read what I wrote, and I have to apologize... All you're trying to do is make a suggestion, and one that will increase your appreciation for the game. So, I'm sorry (but honestly, don't count on it getting in).

Did I mention that I'm a raging pessimist?

The interface is based on DesktopX . . . you can roll your own!

Go grab the standard version of dx, fire up the builder, browse to C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Screens and have at it! You may want to start with MainWnd.dxpack

I already have poor vison. It may come as a shock and surprise to some folks that others who have poor eyes do still enjoy buying and playing video games. We also watch televison, too. Sometimes, we even drive our cars and go out and buy groceries and stuff.

"Buy some glasses".

You should really be ashamed. I mean, really. Grow up. I may need to wear glasses to see, but you need to wear boxing gloves before you choose to type. If you had even one ounce of common decency, you would never have posted that unfeeling, uncaring, truly low message. Before I go, I must remember to call up Barnum and Bailey's, obviously they are missing their clown, and its name is Spearthrower.

I truly hope I never ever have to read anything from you again.

As for the other posters, your suggestions are kinder, but only somewhat. I understand that Stardock has based their GUI on their own product ,and that we can modify it. I don't really do any computer programming, and I don't feel that I have the time or ability to do this project. I was hoping that someone more talented with display programming might help. As I have said before, there's plenty of precedent set by the MSFS programmers. People who need glasses play with Flight Simulator, too. It's just that they don't often get hired to fly the airplanes.

:o .... you did read the first part of what I typed right? The... "please treat this as a throw away comment...." etc.

Unfeeling, uncaring? Hmm, well, just so you know, my mother's been totally blind (and seriously disabled) since I was 2 years old. I am not uncaring in the slightest about disability but I also steadfastly maintain a sense of humour..... something you obviously do too or you wouldnt have waxed lyrical. I only really posted due to the fact that it had slipped to the bottom of the 2nd page and I wanted an answer for you.... one that I didn't personally have so I bumped it with a joke! So, accept my sincere apologies please as I had no intention of causing offense and take it in the vein it was intended, as a bit of light humour.

Well... there are a number of things it doesn't pay to comment on in the Internet, especially in forums. I would be lying if I said I haven't made my share of bonehead comments myself, including the stuff above. I feel that I have stepped over the line of decency, and so I also apologize to you, as well.
