no way to destroy old ships ? how to turn off production of a ship ?

At the start of a game I used to build up some small recon to watch out ....now I don`t want them anymore. Can I destroy them somehow or is the only way for still using them to upgrade them ? I don`t like to have them anymore because I want to save the maintenance costs and later build much better ones. So, does anybody know how to get this ships away ?
Also I noticed that somehow on one of my planets from time to time there are ships been build I don`t gave the order to do. Unfortunately I didn`t find any button allowes me to stop the running production. So each time that I figure out that a ship is been build without my order the only thing I can do is to accept that there will be a new one ? Does anybody know how to stop that ?

You can use the "destroy" button or press "Del" to disband ships (you will even get a little money back).

You can set shipyards to produce "Nothing". (Note that shipyards keep producing the same type of ship until cancelled by default IIRC.)

To decomission a ship, you can select and press the delete key, or double-click it and then click on 'decomission' from the pop-up menu.

I'm not sure what your options settings are, but you can change a planet's production so that no ship is being built by selecting and visiting one of the many ship construction menus. From there, you can select 'nothing' and then just click on 'done'. This will put any work done in the Starport to waste, so I tend to do this immediately after a ship has been built.

Hi,

I'm seeing the exact same problems as he is though. If I go to the design screen, and I make a modification to a design I made earlier, and I say "upgrade ships" (to modify the existing ones), suddenly all planets with starports start making that design...

Maybe it's an option somewhere that I'm overlooking ?

Thanks.....now that you guys mention it, I remember to wonder why there is this row saying "no ship will be produced".....sounds kind of logic now and i will try the delete button for some of my small recons

Does anyone have the location for this option? I like that the goveners will upgrade my planets for me but I'd like them to stop building new ships everytime I mess with one of my designs.

There is a "build same ship until cancelled" checkbox in the options screen, but it is not linked to upgrades. Not sure if that's what you want...
