Brutal AI exploit???

Not actually sure if this is an exploit or not, since it seems like perfectly fair gameplay - but I think the AI is quite susceptible to it.

1) Locate resources that someone is mining that you don't want to risk war with.
2) Find or encourage someone else to go to war with that race
3) Build a constructor and a few warships
4) Move the constructor and warships beside the resource
5) Sell the other race the warships
6) They will destory the mining base, and now you are free to mine it yourself.

Not only do you get the resource without war, but you get to charge someone for the priviledge of destroying it for you!!

Has anyone seen the AI do this to them? I would be pretty fracking impressed if it did.

Should you receive diplomatic relation hits when you sell warships to somenone's enemy? Its insanely fun, but it seems strange that I could still sell weapons to someone's worst enemy and maintain cuddly relations. On the other hand IF the AI can do the same thing then that is good enough.

Comments?

These are secret arms sales. Some kind of AlienGate if it is discovered...

The USA did sell weapons to Iran and Iraq, at the same time... To quote some james bond movie "in the market of death we don't take sides" (The Spectre chief )

The A.I does park constructors by resources at intelligent level, just in case of the scenario you mention.

Alternatively, sell the AIs the techs to enable the first 4 mining upgrades early on (they don't often research them on their own), wait until they've built their constructors and upgraded the mining starbase, then buy the whole thing off them for a couple of other techs and some makeup cash.

No-one gets hurt (OK, so there's a downside to everything) and you've got a better developed mining starbase at the end of it.

Just thinking now of trying to play GC2 in a tiny universe at MAXIMUM difficulty and seeing how long I will last!

Not an exploit, but intelligent planning.

abit like in moo2, developing a tiny toxic world, giving it as a gift to your enemy and stellarconverting it. Building the ensuing asteroids into a large rockworld

It is hard to convince races to go to war with each other (as least at level Tough / Intelligent which I play at). Now if they are already at war this would work.

Yep it is often insanely hard to get races to go to war (I once offered a race about 7 techs all my money and ships and all the worlds in my empire to attack someone else just to see what they would say......'not on your life' came the response).

On the other hand if you somehow did manage it, this seems like a pretty fair tactic to me. I find it very hard to think my actions are 'unfair' to the computer when four of them are attacking me at the same time!

Heck, in GC1, this was a major part of the "Shadow Hand" strategy I used on occasion. It was MUCH easier then because of antimatter missiles and an AI that wasn't hesitant to go to war with yet another race.
