Post screenshots of your custom designed ships here!

Big or small, smooth or ugly, sleek or bulky. Share your creative talents here. I'll start it off... Don't laugh at my ships

The Bulk Freighter Mk II (Mk I didnt have the big thing going downwards at the front)

The F-3B Fury (the Alpha model only had one laser):

The A-1 Spaceraider:

The F-3B Intimidator (A had beam weapons, this one missiles)

The Imperator class:

Imperator dwarfing my X-15 Vanquisher fighters

The Executor class. It's really clunky, I just put it together quick to show the ship design to my brother hehe

I've shown you my crazy designs, now post yours

God your designs are crazy. Remind me of warhammer 40k type battleships, very large, blocky and almost gothic in appearence. Mine are all sleek and sexy and spiky.

Show them then

Also, what style are u using? Terrans? Or different ones. Is it my designing style or maybe it's just that the Terrans have blocky ships haha.

But one thing is for sure, they are crazy, you are right. They reflect their maker

Looks like you're having fun! Some great looking ships there.

how do I post a shot or a small vid?

Gawsh you guys make neat ships. I'm so ashamed of mine that I can't even describe them to you. Let's just say they all feature backward wings and non-symetrical design. It really stems from having no patience and a low tolerance for experimentation.

Hey Gov, link isn't working for me. Doctor J, did you ever play Wing Commander? The Kilrathi were renowned for asymetrical reverse winged spacecraft.

those are some crazy designs, I agree, but they are still cool and original. They remind me of ships that you would see on the cover of the old 40s and 50s science fiction magazines and comics. I'd post mine but I don't know how to take a screenshot. Anybody know?

Hit the "Print Screen" button and paste it in an image editing program. That's what I've been doing, at least.

Behold! I give you... Arf!

So, just to let folks know how important the littlest things can be...

Here I was, on penny-arcade.com reading the news blurb about GalCiv II that accompanied their comic, and I thought to myself, "I should look into getting that."  I'd gotten GalCiv I, but found it to be too limiting for my liking.  It was *good*, but not what I was hoping.  So I read up on GalCiv II, and I'm thinking that I really should get II for sure, eventually...

Then I start reading about the user experiences, both the good and the bad, and decide I should get that once i get my tax return in a few weeks.  *Then* I see that you can play any race, and the comments about the new, brighter AI and all that, and decide I need to get GalCiv II with my next paycheck, in a week-and-a-bit....

Then I found this thread with all the pretty pictures, and read up some more on ship design...  Now, I must purchase this the instant I get home and start it downloading, so when I wake up the download purchase will be long-done and the game will be waiting for me to be addicted, err, to start playing!

The winning thread for me was a comment from someone saying the whole game's cost was paid for entirely when they opened the Ship Builder menu and started playing with all the nifties in there.  Must get GalCiv II!

Well, I have to admit, my craft are a little more... asture... than those. But I like 'em!

Whiskers

Aww, innit cute? Here we have a craft with a sensor range of 20 parsecs. Three or four of these and you're set for a medium map. No guns, no defenses, hardly any engines. Just one pack of life support - which makes them dirt cheap to maintain.

Mantis

"Maybe if I just look really scary they won't realize I only have one laser cannon!" Sadly, this tactic failed.

Panther

My first ever Medium sized craft - I never did research up to Heavy. I just like it because it turned out so nice.

Death Blossom

Don't be fooled by it's flower-like appearance. This small craft, fashioned in the Battle of the Gods game mode, sports two Black Hole launchers. Pretty, eh?

lol, i love the Mantis and the tactic It really does look like it wants to "pounce"" or something haha

nice work guys.

keep it up

Just wondering how you guys manage to get pictures of your ships from the game? could anyone enlighten me? or do I need to go into windowed mode and use a jpg grabbing tool?

I have a few designs, albiet not as great as some above, and still no monsters yet. Still only relatively low in the tech tree so not got to make the Big Battleships yet. But I'm somewhat happy with some of my smaller craft design, as simple as they are

Does this look familiar? hehehe

Haven't built any yet, still trying to get smaller phasors and shields.

My ships look horrible!

How much time did it take to design those? Any of them? They all look so cool!

here's a couple of mine from last night.
this is the Scorpion class fighter:

and the next one I designed in a hurry after screwing up the previous ship. But I think it actually turned out pretty interesting looking... especially with the glow of the engines right at the cross-section like this:

Looks kind of like a mutated B-Wing, haha

my ships take between 5 and 20 minutes to create I'd guess

Haven't built this one yet, so it's still in the shipyard (my chief designer must be part klingon)

(Finally figured how to make the pic show up )

wow rogerano! thats a cool looking ship. Is that from anything? Can you show us some more pics of that? Also post some more ship designs here, you make some pretty looking ships

Anyone know if you can transfer ship designs around? Say someone makes a great ship for the Human hull forms could we download the shipconfig file and use it ourselfs?
You can find all of your saved ship designs in My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\ships (you can usually access My Document from My Computer on your desktop or start menu). Post your most awesome one for other people to use! (I think it needs both the .shipclass and .shipcfg files for each ship, but I'm not 100% sure. Might only need one or the other).

wow guys, great designs. half of the fun of this game is designing ships. I really thought I was going to find it boring, cumbersome, and difficult, but I really enjoy it. my ship designs have mostly been random experiments so far but I've chugged out a few cool prototypes. I really think the ships that draw inspiration from nature look really cool, I'll have to experiment with that some. I also want to try that B-Wing design, real cool

I've been trying to figure out the enterprise configuration, I'm glad someone was able to. I wonder if we could figure out the excelsior too...btw, has anyone successfully created a star destroyer? I read it was possible, but I imagine it to be tough. so far the only pieces I've noticed are the extension pylons and the pylon sphere to make what would be the shield generators on a star destroyer

btw, I really think you should be able to access the shipyard from the main menu and be able to design prototypes independent of the game. it would be a good idea to not allow the addition of anything that took up space though
