Does DL Purchase require Net connection for Reinstall?

I am leaning towards purchasing directly from Stardock, but I want to confirm how reinstalling in the future works.

I understand the DL and serial number can be backed up to disk. Does it require an internet connection for future reinstalls? It always makes me nervous depending on a company to be there in the future to verify a reinstall. If something happens to the company, you're out of luck.

I assume the retail CD does not require an internet connection?

If you archive the game via SDC it should save the sig.bin file in the GC2 folder, so if you reinstall from that archive on the same machine you will not need to reactivate, but SDC may require an internet connection itself. If you install from the archive to another machine you will need to remove the sig/bin and reactivate.

If you buy the retail CD or order it from Stardock, you can install from the disc with complete freedom, you don't even need to input the serial code if you don't want to.
