scanner range 20 is a beautiful thing

pretty

first time one of these launches out of orbit is an eyepopping experience. when the fog is lifted off the whole screen and you can see straight through to the background... wow!

pack a cargo hull full of scanners and engines and park two or three along your border.

Should have seen it before they accidentally nerfed Scanner V and Scanner VI modules. I revealed an entire medium map with a single ship one time Or I think it was a medium map, might have been a small, it was the largest map available at the time, but that was back in beta 2 I think.

I like my "super scanner" ships but I suppose there will have to be a sensor module limit imposed beyond size and cost for game balance purposes.

I'm not sure that's the case. Sure, you can see a lot more than you would otherwise, but you have to dedicate a ship to it in order to make it at all useful. It doesn't work while the ship is in orbit, so it has to be on the map, exposed in order to function. You could put it in a fleet if you have the logistics for that, but now you're tying up other ships just to keep your AWACS ship safe. Besides, it doesn't do much that the Eyes of the Universe (if and when they work) do already. By the time you can reveal that much of the map in one shot, you've probably already been to at least half the map, all the resources and anomolies are going to be taken, etc. Now, if you could do it at the start of the game, yes, that would be a REALLY BIG ISSUE. But it doesn't, so I don't think it is.
