All carrier modules produce guardians

All my carriers produce guardians, no matter which carrier module is added to the ship design.  I notice some extremely elderly posts about this:

https://forums.galciv3.com/487652/bug---crusade-28---carriers-spawning-guardian-drones-instead-of-assault-fig

It seems like this was working more recently than those posts.  I have tried starting a new game, and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game.  Any suggestions?  I can't play like this.  Thanks.

I guess I could mention: these are the expansions I have installed
Retribution
Intrigue
Crusade
Mega Events
Builders Kit
Revenge of the Snathi
Rise of the Terrans
Mercenaries

Thanks again.

Anyone there?
Updates:
First, I unsubscribed from everything and tried again.  Still all guardians.
Second, with everything in the workshop still unsubscribed, I uninstalled and reinstalled.  I did not add my designs back and just played a test game as the Terrans. The carrier modules worked correctly
Third, I added my designs back and created a custom faction but I did NOT use the fleet builder.  Carrier modules still worked.
Fourth, I used the fleet builder to add in my designs.  Carrier modules stopped working and I got all guardians again.

What's up with that?  I'm going to guess it's the tiny ships but I'll test that some.

Since you're looking for any response, no, I haven't seen this problem. I use carriers very heavily, and do not have this problem. I always design my own carriers using the assault carrier module, and get assault fighters. I have all expansions and DLCs, and I normally play a custom faction.

Hi thanks, I appreciate it.  Something is screwy nevertheless.  I mean, is it something about the OS and GC3?  Windows 10 pro, 1909 here.  Am I the only one in the world with this problem?

I am re-running my tests above to be 100% sure what I wrote is accurate, since now I'm worried I read the ship names and not the roles.

I have the same issue, all of my carrier fighters in game use laser weapons, even with assault fighter modules installed. Computer carrier fighters will use missiles, which means it is an uphill battle in the late game. I do get the 3rd fighter for each module at least. I also have a plethora of expansions and subscribed workshop content, which I imagine would make isolating the problem difficult. I guess it hasn't bothered me enough to really dig into the issue. Also Windows 10, but I have no idea if that is a potential cause or just a common feature.

Type of carrier module only determins what type of fighter you will get, Guardian - Kinetics, Assault - Missiles and Interceptor - Beams.

Role is determined by what load out the fighter gets. Each Fighter gets 1 Weapon of choice, then the auto generator gets a choice of 1 Normal Weapon, 1 Resource Weapon or the Best Defense module available. If you invest heavily in Defense techs and not keeping Weapons equal or further along then yes it is totally possible your fighters are coming out as Guardians due to Role and Tech Progression.

Horemvore: very interesting!  But my experience is . . . otherwise.  First, in the busted game, they all used beams all the time, regardless of module.  Second, in my tests, I unlock all techs.  I see them with kinetics, missiles, and beams.  But in at least one test, the assault fighters are role "interceptor" and the interceptors and guardians are role "guardian" even with every tech unlocked.

I wonder if anyone else has encountered what you're describing?  Is this new?  I've used carriers forever, since 2015.  I know they get loadouts based on your tech level.  It's beyond comprehension that the role would be determined that way.  Essentially, guardians are not fighting and contribute nothing to my fleets, even when I set my carriers as "capital" ships to eliminate anyone in the support role.  Which also incidentally gets them killed.  I guess it goes without saying that calling them "interceptor drones" and having them produce guardians isn't a great thing either, even if it's by design.

I'll do more tests tonight and we'll see what happens.  Thank you!

Something about my designs being put into the fleets component of the factions editor, it looks like, is what the issue is.  Although interceptors are still guardians, at least the assault ships are interceptors now.  Hey stardock, that seems weird, is that by design like Horemvore suggests?  This is with the techs unlocked, as I said.

Anyway, I may have to re-create my designs, I dunno.  I have 1200 hours playing and a minimum of a hundred of those are designing ships.  That's a big part of the game.

I'm not super thrilled.

End of Colonel_Panic2465's quote

I am not sure it is tbh, this has been disscussed and reported a few times (More so to do with code in the XML that gets over written by the TFV system)

You can adjust the Ship Componets, Threat, Fortitude and Value stats, will require a new game but not a redesign. Or you can tweak the Blueprints for fighters, will not require a redesign.

Edit:

Feel free to rip both these files from my mod pack if you do not fancy modding it all yourself, this type of thing is mostly fixed (Some harcode I have no access too). ShipBlueprints is also Restructured and Commented so it is easier to edit.

Just a brief update: I downloaded all the remaining DLCs and I still get the carrier issue.  All fighters are beam and shields guardians regardless of carrier module *IF* I customize the fleet in any way in the faction editor.  If not, I get the three kinds of attacks for the three kinds of fighters, and the assault guys are interceptors and the interceptors and guardians are guardians.  It's weird but at least somebody isn't a guardian.  Better than a sharp stick in the eye.

That's interesting.  I have bad luck with carriers (they all come out pretty much the same), and if I have to just use the auto-created ones, that would be annoying.

I have found that, if I research Lasers up through a decent non-Elerium level, and ignore Missiles tech, I'll get laser fighters.  I assume it is because it is the most lethal non-resource weapon.  But they are always still guardians.
