Default Graphic Settings

they are all kinds of wrong

Windows 10 on RX 590.

Primary monitor resolution: 1920x1200

Secondary monitor resolution: 1440x900

I noticed immediately that the game looked terrible.  I immediately went to graphics settings and it claimed 1920x1080.  No way. 1920x1080 does not look like this on my monitor.  I alt+tabbed out of the game and...Windows stayed in the resolution the game is actually running at: 1202x882!  No wonder it looks terrible.

After changing to DX12 and the appropriate resolution, the main menu still looks bad like it is blurry/out of focus.  Perhaps like it is being stretched from some lower resolution.

Good find.  What happens if you set it to run in a window?

Looks the same no matter 1920x1080, 1920x1200, Fullscreen, Borderless Fullscreen, or Windowed.

May have spotted another issue: It should be running DX12 according to the graphics settings but when windowed, the title bar says "SiegeOfCentauri_DX11.exe"

Edit: This is on "High" presets.  I changed it to "Crazy" and it still looks wrong.  Even the "shift+tab to open Steam Overlay" looks wrong like it's rendering at like 1440x900 and scaling it up to 1920x1200.

Edit: The game looks better when actually playing...not in menus.

Edit: Confirmed: When I click to start a mission, it's like all of the UI elements shrink to the size they should be for a fraction of a second, then bam, in the game where everything looks clear.

TL;DR: Three issues:
1) DX12 doesn't appear to run DX12.

2) All of the menus outside of gameplay render at a lower resolution than graphics settings dictate and it is scaling it up to the graphics settings resolution.

3) On first run, the game used an extremely weird resolution.

Did you resolve this?  I had similar graphics problems, but in my case it would lock up or not play at all.  Finally, I removed my second monitor and they all went away. I realised that this was a beta, and just wasn’t coping with a second screen plugged in.

There won't be a build update until Monday at the earliest right now. I'll make sure to flag this down when the office is open again, assuming Brad doesn't already have it well in hand.

If anyone else has this bug and can list steps to reproduce it will help identify the severity and any other ways it is occurring.

#1 the executable is literally named _DX11.exe and there doesn't appear to be another one.  I have no idea whether or not it is running DX12.  If it is, the executable name is misleading.

#2 nope. I just deal with it.  Because so little time is spent in the menu, it's easy enough to forgive.

#3 just changed resolution, applied it, and restarted the game.  Seemed to be okay then.  Well, excepting #2 anyway.

I do have two 8:5 monitors (one is 1920x1200, the other is 1440x900).  I never had problems getting the game to run and haven't had problems with lock up (other than long initial load).  I have not tried unplugging my second monitor.

Can confirm the same with my 1920x1200 monitor, could well be the aspect ratio. But I also have another monitor.

I was told it is okay to put an image of this here (shows issue #2 above):

Image resolution is 1920x1200 and my display resolution is 1920x1200 on an RX 590.

The thing that stands out is the buttons on the bottom of the screen.  They appear blurry/unfocused to me, especially in contrast to the Siege of Centauri logo at the top left.  Further, there's an artifact above the L in "PLAY GAME" where the grays do a shift that's not consistent with the other buttons and there's a maroon strip that is much darker than the other buttons.  I think whatever my GPU is doing there is what is also related the unfocused/blurry effect.

If I had to guess, I'd say most of the 2D elements are rendering at 960x600 and being stretched to 1920x1200.  It may also be related to using 8:5 display ratio or having two mismatched display resolutions.

Thank you for taking the time to share the screenshot and info. I noticed the same blurriness when playing at 1920x1080 resolution. I'll be sure to pass the information to the team.
