What Siege is...and what it isn't...

If you saw the movie, Matrix Revolutions, you could make the case that the battle for Zion was a movie version of tower defense.

Siege of Centauri, in some respects, is that.  You are dealing with massive armies of machines.   And frankly, you are the only hope for the colonists.

So what is Siege? It's in the tower defense genre to be sure but with a few twists:

  • You don't get resources from killing enemies unless you place a special tower to scavenge the debris.
  • You do get resources from metal deposits and extractors (similar to Ashes).  So you have something to protect before they get to your base.
  • Day and night matter.  There are cases where vision matters because you can't see the enemy until you actually place light sources to illuminate the way for your guns (unless they have radar guidance which most don't).

What we need from you guys:

  1. Ideas. Ideas. Ideas.  This game is 67% classic tower defense and 33% strategy.  This is a blend that really hasn't been done before.
  2. Patience.  We are experimenting with a lot of ideas. Some of which are half-baked.  The whole point of the Founder's program is to ensure design mistakes we make are corrected before the general public sees it.
  3. Criticism.  Similar to ideas, these will be areas where we are doing something but it isn't fun.  For example, we debate internally about placement of towers. How many placements? How flexible?  A lot of ideas seem good on paper. :)

We are super-excited to talk to you guys!

A good idea is to have a game-mode that is like Castle Fight in Siege of Centauri

I always wanted Ashes to have something like that..

can it be done?

here is a few links of the mods from Warcraft 3 and StarCraft 2

Are these resource deposits going to be finite more like an RTS?

Just a random suggestion, but take a look at (arguably) the best tower defense game - Gem Craft, chasing shadows (https://store.steampowered.com/app/296490/). Just for some inspiration :)

Also would it be possible to upgrade the resource collection rate?

Re: metal refineries - yes, they give you metal and you should protect them.

Re: resource collection: They are infinite.

Re: You can build scavenger towers which you can upgrade to get more resources from.  They collect 1 metal for each enemy killed (1,2,3 based on level).

I may have been less than friendly in my criticism so far but that's because praise is harder for me. You guys have a good solid base to work from.

I'd like to see gun ranges kind of reversed. The weak guns should be able to hit anywhere and the powerful guns very close. It makes their placement more important. Right now they have such huge range it's foolish to even both with weak guns.

I'm also hoping there is a great story. I really enjoy that the most. I wish maybe we had to protect more than metal refineries, but story characters. maybe they're excavating to learn more of the threat or need to be evacuated with plans for better guns. Then I have a reason to build guns along the whole path to protect their transport rather than spamming at a choke point.

Maybe a sarcastic little AI that berates you (the best part of defense grid was GLadOS after all) for placing a gun with poor path coverage area (and thus less potential dps) or wrong type for units that will be passing in the area. Used for flavor and for learning aid.

I think survival mode is where the game will really shine and line up with expectations. But here's hoping you nail the campaign implementation.

Best wishes to you and your team Brad.
