background nebula on galaxy map redux

Early last summer I saw this now-dead thread: https://forums.galciv3.com/467536/page/1/.

I'm still with Mottikhan; I'd really appreciate something added to game settings for the mod-indifferent or mod-averse players.

Yesterday I had the best background I've had in ages. This morning when I loaded the game up again, the difference was so stark that I'm trying a reload. I can't quite believe how much difference there is in the screen readability across the backgrounds. I don't even know if it is a set of flat files or custom-generated for each instance.

I also have no idea if it is a modestly demanding code thing. I'm guessing that it is probably not that big a deal and just needs a bit more muttering from the peanut gallery to get it trickled up on the UI polishing task list.

If you love a nice, dark galaxy, please speak up!

I took the reduced nebula mod and reduced it to about 1/4 of what that was.  I now have nice dark galactic backgrounds where most of the map colors show very nicely and I have a hint of nebulae off in the visual distance.  Very evocative.

Unfortunately, none of this works in MP, because you can't have mods. Every session of MP is a crapshoot as to whether I will actually be able to read the map without moving it back and forth to get some of the darker spaces behind the ships I am moving at the moment.  It is indeed a great pain in the eyeballs.

Have you tried editing the file in the base game folder for MP? (You would both need to do this to prevent desyncs)

Really good thought, but no.  I am already using more mods and modding than I have for any other game ever.  I am also remembering why I did more interviewing of network programmers than actual programming. I hate debugging! :O  I am not ready to take on core game files for a cosmetic enhancement just yet.  ;)

Hence the renewed plea to the devs ;-)
