AI 'cheat' question: How do they chase me when I'm way outside sensor range?

For the Nth time, some puny little warship with a sensor range of 2 has begun chasing one of my sensor ships that saw it from 10 hexes away and moved to avoid.

For a while, I tried to tell myself that it was my sensors giving them the location fix. But if that's so, why don't I get the same benefit from their better-sensor ships? Does the FoW really exist for the AIs at Normal & above?

This lazy player wants the thorough XML and forum readers to pony up the explanation, if there is one. The flea-bait Snathi Revenge are trying to scavenge the H12-Super from me!

The Snathis salavged one of my super battlestars with kinetic augmentation! I had to bring 4 battlestars to take it down!

Maybe they have exploration treaty with someone else nearby?

That scavenging ability is fun to have when you play but can really bite when the AI uses it on you.

I mostly notice this 'super hunter' behavior when my ship and the weak-eyed enemy are the only ones in the area.

I've never actually seen the AIs build and use a serious sensor boat, although I imagine one of them buys the H12-Super every now and then. If a friend of my enemy has tagged one of the late game sensor boats I notice this happening to most often, then they are doing an excellent job of both building huge sensor ranges and staying out of my 20-25 hex ranges.

That would be impressive if it is really happening, but the 'feel' the game has given me consistently is that no matter how crappy their sensors are, AI warships see me when I see them. On the other hand, I've had wildly incorrect impressions of what was actually going on in a game before, going all the way back to GC1...

What i noticed in an earlier version pre 1.82....

I was at war with the Korath and they were sending powerful fleets against me.

I was able to deal with them ok, but when my fleets started getting noticeably more powerful, that is when i noticed a change in their behavior.

They started 'sneaking' fleets through wherever i did not have sensors, and sometimes manage to destroy one or two starbases before being intercepted.

Somehow the AI knows exactly where i do not have sensor coverage - that is a fact!, then as soon as i put a sensor boat there, they immediately stop trying to sneak through that area - how do they know i put a sensor boat there when they have no fleets in the area at that time?

Further.... once i have full sensor coverage along the boarder, they stop sending fleets altogether, they don't even take a peek, my sensor boats are not activated from sentry mode.

Just out of curiosity i take away one of my sensor boats and leave a 'sneak' path to my starbases.... and sure enough they come that way, its amazing!!!!
